Slow board problem?

Post by Gaybutton »

Has this been happening to anyone else?

For me, over the past couple days the board has been extremely slow to load and just as slow once into the board. I have even had a few time-outs.

I'd like to know if this has been happening only to me or to any of you gents too.

In any case, I have sent a notification to Moses about the problem and hopefully normal speed will soon be restored - to me and anyone else experiencing this problem.

This is a strange one. I tried deleting the board cookies. Now the board is intermittently operating normally for me, but also still reverting to extremely slow. Maybe Moses knows what is causing this. I have no idea.

Is this happening only to me? If so, there must be some sort of problem on my end.

Just curious.

Is this happening on other sites/programs, or just here?

No, I also had the problem. It was very bad yesterday. The board wasn't even loading for me to try the delete cookies menu.
So I deleted cookies in the Firefox menu. That made no difference.
Other websites were opening as normal.

When it is open, the "New Posts" option often doesn't work, and the warning message says something about high load on the server.
I prefer to access the board with the New Posts option, as posts could be in any sub forum and even in the Thai one, we need to pan down to find the new posts.
[Slightly off topic, but it may be helpful to put the top 4 posts in the Thailand board into announcements.
These actually are announcements & that leaves fresh content at the top of the Thailand board, which may be better for reader engagement & access].

For me, only here. But for the past couple hours the board has been loading and running normally for me.

Again, I have no clue what is causing this, but since it is also happening to Jun, then it sounds more like some sort of server problem. I did see significant improvement after I deleted the board cookies.

I had a lot of problems yesterday with very long waits for the site to load. I was also repeatedly logged out and had problems logging back in. It seems OK this morning.

Come to think of it, so was I. I hope Moses figures out what is going on and is able to get it fixed, although after deleting the board cookies it seems to have repaired itself - or at least I'm not having those problems now.

I still think it is probably a server side problem, but that is something I have no access to and probably would not know what to do even if I did have access.

===about high load on the server===

can't say exactly right now what it was, but server was under very high load as per logs from server

there are 2 main possibilities:
- some bot(s) tried to make registration here and spam, and server was busy while fighting with them
- one of AI(s) had reading forum for to learn info

in both cases such things create high load... attempts ended at 02:25 AM tonight, but we can't be sure it is real end

If the attempts will continue for a long time, I will enable a captcha, this will block them, but every action you take on the forum will require confirmation by the "I am a human" captcha.

Hopefully not the type where we need to click on about a dozen buses, traffic lights or motorcycles..... ;)
