Barber shops are different. We tend to go there because we have to. A bar is somewhere we go to for pleasure. So it needs to deliver that. Part of the appeal of the Thai bars is the option of inviting their staff back to your room.
Criticising other customers for complaining seems rather like the pot calling the kettle black.
Ideally, we would see a few more people writing about their own bar visits. If you choose the right bar, there's usually something positive to report.
As for alcohol consumption, whilst I drink slightly too much of the stuff, I see no problem at all with customers who have soft drinks. I remember a Malaysian friend having a great time in Jomtien, without touching the alcohol. He even got dragged into participation in a show, which he seemed to enjoy.
More importantly, if the topic of conversation gets around to boy drinks, I also make it clear he can drink whatever he likes. I wouldn't dream of pressurising them into consuming alcoholic drinks, as they are often in the bar 6 or 7 nights per week. Too much of that will damage their health and their figure.
Are Naughty Boys Really Declining?
Re: Are Naughty Boys Really Declining?
Even the best of bars can't satisfy all of their customers all of the time...as hard as most try.
The bars in Pattaya can welcome you with open arms... show you the boys...give you a place to sit...serve you whatever you want to drink...and the rest is up to you. If you receive the "pleasure" you're referring to that's great. If your not, then that sounds like a personal matter.
I'm saying that because there's always going to be that one customer who always finds something to complain about - who feels slighted because all of his expectations aern't being met. Then when nobody listens to him he gets upset...blames the bar and/or the boy for not delivering that "pleasure" you're talking about...and goes on to speak badly about the bar and/or the boy in the process.
And so the wheel turns.

To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln:
You can satisfy all of the customers some of the time.
You can satisfy some of the customers all of the time.
But you can't satisfy all of the customers all of the time.
Re: Are Naughty Boys Really Declining?
It has always been like that, anywhere in the world.
If a bar is not what I'm looking for, I just keep walking until I find one. In Jomtien, I don't have to walk far.
I'm among several contributors here who quite like the bars. Certainly not every bar, but enough of them.
On the other hand, there are several other contributors here who don't seem to find any of the bars good enough.
I suspect some of those also haven't written about a recent personal bar visit since the board was started in 2010.
Which provides a few points to think about.
For a start, if we reopened Eros, even in a better location, it's unlikely to get rich on custom from those who don't visit bars at present. Businesses do better by targeting people who are potential customers.
Re: Are Naughty Boys Really Declining?
I am one of those who used to enjoy the bars in Pattaya but now have difficulty to find bars I think is worth the price and can enjoy in. I used to write some bar reports here but l've given up bars in Bangkok completely and find just a handful of bars in Pattaya still worth visiting - so not much to write about or recommend to others.

Join the club!
As mentioned (repeatedly) I only visit the bars on rare occasions myself these days, although enjoy keeping abreast of what's going on in the bars just the same.
I find the bars in Bangkok to be a rip-off. Jai and I were there a few weeks ago...visited a few old favorites...didn't stay in any of them long. Silom Soi 4 is still a great place to dine and hang-out, but with the demise of Soi Pratuchai (Twilight) things aern't the same anymore (for me anyway).
Honestly, there's more action in the newly opened "Bangkok One" Mega Mall than anywhere else. Loads of cute Japanese and Korean boys with snug jeans and limp wrists strolling around. Definitely worth a visit if you haven't been there yet.

I don't even like Soi 4, as the music is too loud and big lady boys seem to outnumber cute lads.Dodger wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 8:16 am I find the bars in Bangkok to be a rip-off. If you're in Bangkok and looking for a night out, the best option I can think of is taking a bus or taxi to Jomtien.
Bangkok Gogos. I think the only one that passes the standard of having some cute lads in underwear is Good Boys.
However, I'm not going to pay 2000 extra to off lads of a lower standard than those I already know & can easily contact via Line.
Once I've made that decision and am not looking for a boy, gogo bars really lose the magic.
Now is that a factor with others ?
If you were in Bangkok with your boyfriend and were not actually looking for a threesome, one of the original purposes of gogo bars has become irrelevant.
Part of the magic of Soi Twilight was walking into Classic Boys, seeing all those amazing cute lads in underwear and knowing I would shortly be leaving with one of them. Just looking isn't the same.
Re: Are Naughty Boys Really Declining?
I know MANY gay couples who visit the gogo's regularly. Some go just for the entertainment and to have some fun checking out the boys - and others who are looking for a third (or fourth) bed partner which is very common. Gogo bars are intended for people to have fun - and If their visit was relative to them - then that's all that matters.
I've walked out of many gogo's without offing a boy, but rarely did I walk out without having a good time.

Spot the difference.
As is much lamented here, bars change.
The requirements of the customers may also change. Possibly by more than we realise.
If we all really wanted gogo bars, the remaining decent ones would be packed. They are not.
For gogo bars, Classic Boy in Boyztown has a good selection of boys. Perhaps comparable with Funny Boys, but with about a quarter of the boys.
If we really wanted gogo bars, more of us would be visiting places like that.
The last time I was in there, I was the only customer when I left. I have more fun and meet more boys in Jomtien.
Re: Are Naughty Boys Really Declining?
I think you're confusing yourself.
This post is about the decline in sex tourists - not who likes or dislikes the gogo's.
Obviously the gay scene in general isn't drawing the crowds it used to - for reasons that we all know about too well. No mystery there.
I think it's great that you have the places you like and places you don't like. The rest should be downhill for you - so just keep enjoying yourself. Isn't that what holidays are for?
