As usual, conflicting information. The news articles are saying Somyot - the father - is denying that he is the real owner. Today's (August 17) "Headline News" is saying he admitted that he is the real owner. See: viewtopic.php?p=108035#p108035
It seems simple enough to me to clarify who the actual owner really is. All the authorities need to do is examine which documents were signed and who signed them. If there is some major difficulty about that, I fail to understand what it might be.
My guess is the father, Somyot, bought the place and left Sia B to run it. So far there is no proof that the police or anyone else was bribed to look the other way concerning documents, safety checks, etc, but if proof does surface I'd be interested in who was paid off, how much was paid, and whose money paid them. I would also be interested if anyone who was offered money turned it down, but still never reported the offer.
Obviously it is necessary to find out whose fault this is and how many were involved, but more important is whether the victims are recovering and who will be financially responsible for the cost. Even if any of the victims had medical insurance, which I doubt, the cost probably already exceed the limits of their coverage. Then, there will be rehabilitation care, psychotherapy and PTSD treatment if necessary, compensation if they will be unable to work, and all kinds of other costs. Whether ordered by the courts or not, who would have the money for that? Maybe they could start by selling the corrupt convicted police officer's (known as "Joe Ferrari") ill gotten gains and use that money as part of helping the survivors.
It's anybody's guess now how all this will eventually play out.

The owner of Mountain B pub was taken to Pattaya Provincial Court on Wednesday, facing arraignment on two counts in connection with the inferno at the pub that has claimed 19 lives and left many other patrons grievously burned.
Somyot Panprasong, 55, was escorted to the court around 10.15am by a team of five Phu Ta Luang police, led by deputy investigation chief Pol Capt Boonsong Yuenyong.

Accused “real” owner of Mountain B nightclub, father of previously announced owner, granted bail for 1 million baht
By Adam Judd
17 August, 2022
The Pattaya Provincial Court granted bail to Sia Yot (same person, different spelling of the name), the father of Sia B, this morning, August 17th, 2022 around 11:10 A.M. in the amount of one million baht.
Sia Yot is accused of being the actual owner of the Mountain B nightclub that two weeks prior had an explosion and fire, killing 19 people in total and injuring dozens of others.
Sia Yot will need to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet, is forbidden from leaving the country, must check in on a regular basis, and cannot interact with any witnesses or tamper with any evidence.
Sia Yot denies all charges and is steadfast in saying he has nothing to do with the venue. His son, Sia B, has taken all accountability and claims he was the sole owner and sole person responsible for the incident. Thai police, however, claim Sia Yot was involved with the business and there may be others involved as well.

There has been no further publicity lately that I can find, which is why I removed this topic from "Announcements". If any significant news about the incident or the current efforts to inspect venues for fire safety appears, I will put the topic back on "Announcements".

This is off topic a little, but I was in multiple gay dance clubs in Bogota and Medellin. All were fire traps. One of them had a fire in the main distribution panel while I was in it. We sat in the dark in a basement. No one seemed to care. I left, walking past men trying to jumper around the damaged breakers in the box. Over 100 people in the club.

300+ teens pack Chiang Rai pub during raid, all fire doors locked
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... ors-locked
PAR-Club was the place to go when you offed a boy in Chiang Rai and wanted to invite him to a club. What happened in Sattahip should save lives all over Thailand if local authorities take responsability.

Re: Major fire in Sattahip pub kills 13, injures 41
Thank you ilz. All the fire doors locked. WHY? Especially in light of what happened in Sattahip - and that was not the first time. There is absolutely no excuse for locking fire doors and there are probably not enough fire doors in the first place.
I wish the authorities would arrest the owners and the courts very heavily fine them, jail them, and close down their venue until independent inspection says the place is fire safe.
It is sickening that these venues are perfectly willing to put people's lives at risk so they can make more money. It's hard to think of a more terrible way to die than being burned alive. And it is almost just as bad to survive, but severely burned.
Until fire safety is rigidly enforced and stays rigidly enforced, sooner or later the same thing is going to happen again.

Jailing them for a couple of months seems appropriate if we consider the contempt they have for their customers safety.
However, if it's anything like Pattaya, the police will be more interested in tea money than law enforcement.
