Thai Civilized Party leader to propose “Entertainment Complex” openings and legal casinos in Thailand at next parliamentary meeting

Leader of the Thai Civilized Party Mongkolkit Suksintharanon on Friday, November 19th, published a photo of his party’s proposals on his social media, urging the opening of an “Entertainment Complex” and legal casinos in Thailand.
According to his statement, the issues will be introduced at the upcoming meetings of the parliamentary committees this Thursday, November 25th.
TPN Media notes that this is not the first time the MP has proposed such ideas to the parliament. The ideas, even though they have been introduced many times for decades by other MPs, have been dropped out and neglected, leaving only debates among the public of its suitability including local entrepreneurs in Pattaya.
Six MPs from the Thai Civilized Party will be discussing the opening of entertainment complexes in order to increase income for local communities and to build new sources of income from foreign tourists visiting the country while party founder Mongkolkit himself will be reasoning his main proposals for legalizing casinos in Thailand.

My first trip to Thailand was in 1986 and the opening of casinos was being mentioned in the press as being proposed at that time. As mentioned in the article, over the years it has been brought up again and again and never goes anywhere.

The last time I looked Cambodia was a Buddhist country and they have no shortage of Casinos however, Cambodian nationals are denied admittance.Casinos in Pattaya would have a huge positive economic impact. One at the Dusit, one at the Hilton, and one at the Royal Cliff…..

Since many Chinese like to gamble & casinos are banned there, I guess legalizing casinos would encourage more Chinese visitors.

I'm not surprised. Cambodia is not the only place that has a similar policy. Miami is very close to two Bahama islands - Freeport and Nassau. Both have casinos and I used to go regularly. Bahamian nationals can work in the casinos, but cannot gamble in the casinos.
Also in the Miami-Ft Lauderdale, Florida, the Seminole Indian tribe opened a few casinos several years ago and they are making a fortune. I used to live literally next door to one of the Seminole reservations. One of the women told me before the casinos existed they were having a lot of problems trying to keep the younger generation from leaving the reservation. Now that the casinos are making so much money, they no longer have that problem. It is my understanding the Seminoles also can work in the casinos, but cannot gamble in them.
My guess is if Thailand does approve casinos, there will be strict regulations controlling how many and the locations for them. I would expect Pattaya would be one of the locations. I wonder who would get to be the owners and whose brother-in-law would get to do the construction.
I am also guessing that Thai nationals will be prohibited from gambling in them, especially since online gambling is prohibited and even a friendly card game among friends is prohibited, even if the maximum bet is 5 baht.
Here is my own gamble: I'll bet this time there will still be zero chance of Thailand approving casinos. I'd love to be wrong about this one . . .

To be a customer of a casino isn't my idea of a good decision.
To visit a casino that denies entry to it's own citizens would be even more crazy, since there's even less chance than normal of effective regulation to prevent scamming.

If the number of casinos was limited to no more than 3 this scenario could be avoided:

My opinion is the opposite of yours. I love being a casino customer and it's my idea of a great decision. And denying entry to its own citizens works perfectly for the Bahamas and the Seminoles. It has been that way for very many years and has never been a problem.
I say bring 'em on - but again I won't believe it for Thailand until it happens - and I doubt it will happen. Thailand's powers-that-be seem to be vehemently opposed to any form of gambling - the one exception being the Thai lottery.

Reformed gambler MP says legalized casino can be sorted "within the life of this government"

A Bangkok MP who has admitted to once almost losing everything because of gambling has said that a legal casino could become a reality within the lifespan of the current government.
And, controversially, he has said that on this issue MPs cannot be bought.
Palang Pracharath Party MP Sira Jenjakha was speaking to Sanook less than a week since the latest debate on the issue was discussed in parliament.
Sira said that in the past he was always opposed to casinos, legal or otherwise.
From personal experience he nearly lost everything from money to his family because of gambling addiction and he didn't want the same fate to befall others in society.
But now seeing the opinions of friends who are MPs and cross party consensus on opening a casino he has changed his mind.
He wants to figure as part of a commission to look into the issue so that he can offer the benefit of his experience.
He said that the first step is to ensure that initially the casino is only open to foreigners. Thais would only be allowed to work there.
It would pull in investment and tourists.
He said that if different sides of the political divide work together they can overcome the camp that speaks of ills for society. He said that it could be done quickly if that consensus was the case.
Certainly within the life of this parliament.
He claimed that on this issue MPs would not give into the temptation to be corrupt "for sure".
The issue of a legal casino has been debated in Thailand for decades. Some of the issues were raised by ASEAN NOW's Sunday columnist Rooster this week.
He has called a legal casino "the hottest of hot political potatoes" in a country where hundreds of illegal gambling operations operate in almost plain sight with the connivance of allegedly corrupt police and allegedly even politicians.

If casinos we allowed with the caveat that they were for foreigners only it would be a boost for illegal gambling operations which generally cater to locals.webfact wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 7:05 pm Reformed gambler MP says legalized casino can be sorted "within the life of this government"
