Why anyone would want to subject these animals to such utter cruelty goes beyond me. Have they no humanity at all?

Utterly disgraceful! Yet hard though it is for non-Chinese to understand, it is a practice that has come down through the generations, just frankly as some other Chinese eating practices. Shark's fin soup with the fins sometimes torn from live sharks, chickens testicles, fish eyes (a delicacy!), chicken's feet, ducks stomachs, snake soup with the snake stripped into shreds etc. I have actually eaten snake soup many times and it is delicious, rather like a spicy chicken soup. But I hate to see it prepared.

Subjecting animals to cruelty, though, goes beyond the pale.
