From a very large distance, I would like to see a Democrat candidate who will pick up centre votes and make damn sure the village idiot is a 1 term president.

Mr Bloomberg seems to fit the bill.

She back tracked on Medicare for All (like Sanders they wanted to cram it down the throats of union workers with health plans) and appears to have shelved Obamacare. Both Buttigieg and Biden have health care messages that can win. Democrats don't understand that in the general election the electorate is more conservative and selecting the right team is crucial to overcome FoxNews propaganda, right wing fear mongering and Russian interference again.

Freedom House, an independent watchdog organization that releases an annual report on freedom around the world, measures freedom in terms of civil liberties and political rights.

Their annual report, Freedom in the World, "operates from the assumption that freedom for all people is best achieved in liberal democratic societies." The Report linked below published in December, 2018 lists the top 27 countries which were deemed to have the highest levels of freedom.

Unfortunately, the U.S. has dropped in the rankings to number 58 and did not make the top 27 List. Freedom House’s rationale for the drop in rankings: "The United States’ political rights rating declined from 1 to 2 due to growing evidence of Russian interference in the 2016 elections, violations of basic ethical standards by the new administration, and a reduction in government transparency."

Obviously, these results can be tied directly to Donald Trump and his administration. It’s time for those who previously supported Trump to wake up and smell the coffee. How many wars have we fought, and how many lives have we sacrificed, to make America one of the freest nations in the world, only to have a galactic narcissist with a criminal mind and a passion for his only his own glory, destroy all that has been sacrificed by True Americans.

Impeach & Prosecute.

How do you overcome FoxNews propaganda when the only news these morons listen to is FoxNews? They're not going to hear anything else and are not even interested in anything else.

I wish they would, but I don't see any of them waking up unless they are among the ones Trump's policies and lies harmed personally - in their wallets.

Houston police chief criticizes McConnell and Senate Republicans over guns: 'Whose side are you on?'

By Chandelis Duster, CNN

December 9, 2019

Washington (CNN) - Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo criticized Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Republican lawmakers for not reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act and taking action against gun violence, asking them in emotional remarks to choose between the nation's foremost gun lobby and "the children that are getting gunned down in this country every single day."

Acevedo made his remarks to reporters Monday as the Houston Police Department prepared to escort the body of Sgt. Chris Brewster, an officer who died in the line of duty, to a funeral home. The 32-year-old was shot and killed while responding to a call with a team on Saturday.

"I don't want to hear about how much they support law enforcement," Acevedo said. "I don't want to hear about how much they care about lives and the sanctity of lives yet, we all know in law enforcement that one of the biggest reasons that the Senate and Mitch McConnell and (Texas Sens.) John Cornyn and Ted Cruz and others are not getting into a room and having a conference committee with the House and getting the Violence Against Women's Act (passed) is because the NRA doesn't like the fact that we want to take firearms out of the hands of boyfriends that abuse their girlfriends. And who killed our sergeant? A boyfriend abusing his girlfriend. So you're either here for women and children and our daughters and our sisters and our aunts, or you're here for the (National Rifle Association)."

He continued: "So I don't want to see their little smug faces talking about how much they care about law enforcement when I'm burying a sergeant because they don't want to piss off the NRA. Make up your minds, whose side are you on? Gun manufacturers, the gun lobby, or the children that are getting gunned down in this country every single day."

Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which was enacted in 1994, has stalled in Congress. The bill provides grants and support to various groups that work on issues relating to sexual assault and domestic violence and prevention, among other things.

At the time Trump was elected I said and posted that sooner or later I think Trump will have us in a war - somehow, somewhere. The killing of Soleimani might result in just that.

My questions are:

1. Was the killing of Soleimani justified?
2. If Trump wanted Soleimani killed, was this the right method to do it?
3. Is the USA and Iran now in a state of war?
4. And most important of all - what is going to happen now?

Good questions.
1 Allegedly this general has been organizing attacks against numerous targets in the region. If this is true, some action is justified.
2 Killing him in such a high profile way does not seem optimum. Some other countries use more discrete methods, but we don't know if these were open to the US in this case.
3 I see no more reason to be at war now than when Iran fired rockets at a Saudi oil refinery last year. Iran is far from innocent.
4 I presume Iran will conduct various attacks at times of its choosing. Either directly, or via other bodies that fight the proxy war. So no different to last year.

I will continue to avoid airlines that fly via the middle east..

If they do, I wonder how likely it is that Trump will carry out his 52 target threat. And if he does, I wonder what the consequences of that will be. I also wonder what kinds of weapons Trump would use. I wouldn't put it past Trump to call for the use of nuclear weapons. One thing I think is clear - if Iran does retaliate, Trump will do something. I just hope whatever it is will not be something that will escalate into a major war.

Despite Iran's bluster about retaliation, I wonder what their capabilities actually are.

Trump says the reason they chose now to do it is because they had information about imminent threats. But since he has not provided anything to confirm those threats, now there is skepticism as to whether such threats existed. Kind of reminds me of Bush telling us all about how Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

I was happy to hear of the killing of a man who had so much American blood on his hands and I think Trump’s threat of targeting 52 Iranian sites should give Iran pause in seeking retaliation.......time will tell!
