Premium Economy Seats

Post by Jun »

An FT article on the growth of Premium Economy. Apparently this is the most profitable part of the plane per sq foot now.

Despite being on the other side of this deal, Premium Economy currently strikes the best balance between comfort and cost for me (for long haul).

Access article via google link, to avoid FT registration or subscription. Select "Why airlines are rushing to add premium economy seats"

Anyone thinking of upgrading needs to first go to www.seatguru.com and see what you are getting for your money. A cursory look on long haul flights to Bangkok show quite a discrepancy in what you are receiving . Width can be as little as .2 inch and 4 inches of pitch all the way up to 2 inches of width and 8 inches of pitch (Rare). Since Chinese airlines are starting to dominate the market again with a cursory look , some of the Chinese airlines are giving you next to nothing. In other words the seat you used to get in Economy before they started jamming more people in.

Also not necessarily any consistency in the airline depending on aircraft on your route.
