After Alabama, Will Gay Marriage Be Next?

Post by fountainhall »

I believe all reasonable people are utterly shocked and horrified by the legislators in the state of Alabama and their political machinations in their attempt to overturn Roe v. Wade. Those who passed the recent abortion bill and their spineless Governor have had their strings pulled by various ultra right conservative groups for whom abortion remains their top religious priority. That anyone - any reasonable person - could not agree to an abortion in the case of rape or incest, that they could in addition mandate a penalty of 95 years in prison for any doctor performing such an operation, takes that state back to some dark time centuries ago. The USA has seen several doctors shot and murdered in cold blood in recent decades only because they perform abortions. Is there any difference between their killers - and indeed the Alabama representatives = and those members of ISIS who pushed gays off roofs to their deaths? Both groups are religiously motivated zealots.

Although some believe this new law is so extreme it will not get as far as the Supreme Court, others are certain that this will end up overturning settled law. If that happens, presumably all settled law is up for reconsideration by that now politically biased body? And if the zealots - God forbid! - are successful, how long will it be before gay rights and gay marriage are once again before the Court?
