Sometimes hard to believe that Tokyo has had a Pride Parade now for 26 years. This year an estimated 10,000 took part in the Parade through the trendy Shibuya district. Shibuya was an apt choice since it, along with Satagaya, was the first to recognise same sex relationships in 2015. The number attending the Parade last year was estimated at 7,000. So a significant increase this year. But Tokyo has a long, long way to go before the numbers come anywhere close to Taipei's 140,000 participants last year, the more so given that Greater Tokyo has a population of 38 million against Greater Taipei's 7 million.

The theme for this year’s festival was ‘I have pride - aru ga mama o hokorō’. The slogan translates as ‘Be proud of who you are’.
