I well remember her starting up the Manila Film Festival in the early 1980s to which one of her favourites the permanently bronzed George Hamilton was on the guest list - and appeared in Manila regularly. Imelda's largesse must have made it more than well worth his while! As the new Film Palace was being constructed, it collapsed isolating about 150 workers. Did anyone stop construction to mount a rescue bid? Not in Marcos' regime. The Festival had to go ahead on schedule, so the bodies remain entombed within the concrete.
