I made a Thai will using a Thai lawyer. She gave me the following advice:
Since Thai law does not recognise gay relationships, your boyfriend has no standing after you have died. That means involving your embassy or consulate, and your next of kin (probably overseas) in making arrangements for your funeral. All this can be avoided by specifically stating in your will that your boyfriend has authority to make all arrangements for your funeral, which is accepted by both the Thai authorities and the embassies.
As for leaving funds for a funeral, as well as living expenses for a boyfriend before probate (also emergency medical care not covered by insurance if you are disabled by illness or accident) how about a joint account in his and your name? You keep the book, but he knows where it is?

Can you tell us the name of the lawyer and contact information? Maybe others would like to consult him.Undaunted wrote:As I have a Thai will drawn up by an excellent Thai lawyer

I don't believe it can be done, having a joint account with a farang and Thai (unless married)ceejay wrote:As for leaving funds for a funeral, as well as living expenses for a boyfriend before probate (also emergency medical care not covered by insurance if you are disabled by illness or accident) how about a joint account in his and your name? Have you done this or just speculating?

I have done this at Siam Commercial Bank. No special requirements. I needed my passport, him his ID card - that's all.windwalker wrote: I don't believe it can be done, having a joint account with a farang and Thai (unless married)

Mr. Kelvin spoke to the Pattaya City Expats Club about death and wills in Thailand several weeks ago. He works for Thai888 Law Services in View Talay 5D. They are doing Thai wills for 5000 baht for club members and will even pay for your PCEC membership.
