Many years of SCUBA diving taught me a few things.
1. Don't step on jellyfish, even when they're dead and washed up on the beach. Even then it can trigger off the sting. Many found that out the hard way.
2. Keep either a papaya or powdered meat tenderizer on hand if you're going to be in an area where there are stinging jellyfish. If you are stung, putting meat tenderizer on the sting area or hollowing out the papaya and pressing the skin against the sting will usually quickly stop the sting. Both contain Papain. Jellyfish stings are protein based. Papain is an enzyme that breaks down protein. Just sprinkle on the meat tenderizer or press on the papaya skin, but do not rub it in. Rubbing only makes the sting worse.
