Thai beach killings: Even DNA THAI Expert questions DNA evid

Post by Nirish guy »

I wonder just how long they're going to string this out........I guess until they either lock their guys up or GOD FORBID concede they maybe lifted / set up the wrong guys ??

Also I see elsewhere ( sky news) that the police claim that even though their OWN scientists are telling them that yes there's DNA traces on the murder weapon but it's NOT from the guys you have in custody, they are still stating that "NOOOO, we just didn't bother doing any DNA tests on the murder weapon as we looked at it ourselves with a MICROSCOPE !! and we seen there was no DNA on it so didn't need to - with a MICROSCOPE !! - So, that's alright then, guilty as charged then for sure ........:-(

"DNA from a garden hoe allegedly used to kill two British tourists on a Thai island does not match samples taken from two men accused of the killings, a court in the country has heard.
Forensic expert Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand also criticised a failure to analyse blood found at the scene."

If that is the case and if it turns out they are truly innocent, I hope they don't railroad these two guys into a conviction and meanwhile the real killer(s) is still at large. I hope saving face is less important than convicting innocent people of murder.

Yes I do. I've lived here long enough that I don't make an assumption that all police here are crooks and are perfectly willing to intentionally destroy the lives of innocent people. An article that appears on one news source is not enough to convince me.

You've been alive HOW long and yet you believe in the veracity of this kind of news report when it comes from only one source?

When I see the same report coming from more news sources, that's when I'll stop hoping.

It came from two sources actually ( Sky news and BBC News) who of course lift their stories off the wire - but hey never let it be said you haven't faith in the Thai police service - God bless 'em. Well see If your confidence is well placed in the fullness of time I guess.

My guess is that the evidence will end up proving SO overwhelming against the guys being convicted that they'll HAVE to let them go and or organise some sort of mistrial as once their OWN named forensic people start telling them "you've got the wrong guys" I'm guessing even they will have to take note at some point .... you would think ? But again, T.I.T I guess so we'll see.

Oh and if the source is the issue then just google Thai murder DNA etc, there are numerous reports from many news outlets reporting the Chief of the Thai government forensics lab giving evidence to the Court that the DNAon the murder weapon does not match that of either of the two suspects currently being held. In most other Countries that would bring the prosecutions case to an immediate and almost instant end, but not in this case it seems.

The real question is how a good and honest cop could possibly survive for years or even decades in that organization as it is. I'm sure they must exist, early on in their career that is, but I just cannot see how they can avoid getting corrupted, even if they start squeaky clean. And that's by design, not by accident. That said, I don't think that it's their mission to intentionally destroy the lives of innocent people - I'd think of them as collateral damage due to the dysfunctional nature of that police farce. They're under pressure to present the culprits (especially in such a high-profile case), and quickly, whom they either don't know or have to protect. From that point of view it all makes sense, they pick someone who they assume cannot put up a lot of resistance, make shit up as they go and in most cases get away with it. The extraordinary level of scrutiny in this particular case might prevent that, let's wait and see.

I was hit, threatened: Koh Tao accused

Myanmar man says he confessed to killing after police threats

One of two Myanmar men accused of murdering two British tourists told a court yesterday he admitted to crimes he did not commit after being physically assaulted and threatened with being killed.

At yesterday's hearing in Koh Samui Court, Zaw Lin, the first defendant, answered questions from a defence lawyer. During the defence's three-hour hearing he said he was assaulted by police.

He told the court that after his arrest, a police interpreter told him to admit to the crime or he would be killed. He was told that if he confessed, he would be imprisoned for "only four to five years".

Due to fear, he agreed to confess, the co-defendant told the court.

He said that before re-enactment of the crime at the scene of the murders, an interpreter suggested what should be done.

Zaw Lin testified that in November last year he signed his name to a written confession because he was still afraid of getting killed. He claimed that he did not understand the words in the document.

Later, he passed a hand-written note to a trusted lawyer, who regularly visited him at Koh Samui Prison.

He wrote: "I didn't kill. I knew nothing about the murders", and signed his name.

The lawyer later submitted Zaw Lin's petition seeking fair treatment and claim that he was not the real culprit.

The man told the court that he was hit by an interpreter after answering his question about a dispute in Rakhine State between Buddhists and Muslims. Zaw Lin said he told the interpreter he knew nothing much because he had lived at Koh Tao for some time already.

The other defendant in the murder case trial is Wai Phyo, who also testified later yesterday. Both defendants are 22.

In September last year, British backpackers David Miller and Hannah Witheridge were murdered on the tourist island of Koh Tao. Witheridge was also raped. The two Myanmar workers were later arrested for the murders.

Officials from the National Human Rights Commission and the Myanmar Embassy were also present during yesterday's hearing.

So, anytime you're ready then it perhaps as there have now been a raft of reports citing both DNA ( or lack of it) issues and confessions forced by torture etc reported by multiple sources already......... ??

Not quite ready just yet, but I'm at least leaning in that direction. The reports tell us what the boys say happened to them. Other than their say-so, which is exactly what I would expect them to say, show me any evidence whatsoever that they were in any way coerced, beaten, tortured, or threatened into a confession. If you buy their story, fine with me. I do not. The only parts of any articles I've seen that would sway my opinion are the parts about the conflicting DNA testing results.

I don't share the opinion that some people have, who seem to be convinced the entire judicial system, political system, police system, and governmental system of Thailand is nothing but corrupt and they're out to put innocent people in prison for the rest of their lives, or execute them, even if there is reason to believe the actual culprits are still out there.

By the way, you might be happy to know if Thailand had a jury system and I found myself on their jury, at this point, with the information made publicly available, I would vote not guilty - not because I believe they are innocent, but because so far I haven't seen enough that proves to me, beyond reasonable doubt, that they are guilty.
