And if the Sattahip fire is any example, they're interested in much more than mere pittance of tea money.

Families of Mountain B club fire victims urge DSI to look into case as they claim little progress made

Families of the Mountain B nightclub fire victims gathered to petition the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to look into the case, as they were reportedly dissatisfied with the progress of the investigation.

The gathering of the mourning families accompanied by a famous lawyer, Ronnarong Kaewpetch, took place Monday morning, September 12th, in front of the DSI Operation Center Region 2 in Sattahip district to call for justice for their departed or injured loved ones who had fallen victim to the Mountain B club inferno that killed 23 people as of September 12th.

The lawyer filed a petition to the DSI asking for a special investigation into possible bribery that he claimed may have been exchanged between the suspects and state officials or police to let the pub operate without a proper license.

Ronnarong said: “Even though Sia B and Somyot, the announced club owners, are already in the justice system, the victims’ families are still concerned that this case will end up like the Santika pub fire, in which no state officials or police were held accountable.”

The older sister of a cashier who died inside the pub said she was given 50,000 baht for funeral arrangements and another 50,000 baht in compensation, but she has not received a word from the suspects ever since.

Meanwhile, the elderly father of Thanakrit Neenoi, another deceased victim and a breadwinner for the family, revealed that there had been no progress in the investigation and that police had only summoned a small number of witnesses for questioning.

The family urged the relevant authorities to show more effort in solving the case and giving them justice.

The petition letter was received by Wirat Kullavanich, a special case investigation officer at the DSI Operation Center Region 2, who promised to summon the suspects for another interrogation.
