The Central Vaccination Centre (CVC) at Bang Sue Grand Station is offering vaccine shots regardless of which dose it is for both Thais and foreign nationals on a walk-in basis.

Appointments are no longer required as Covid-19 caseloads have surged, it said.

In the middle of last month, sufferers of lung infections jumped 1.5 times while fatalities also rose particularly among the unvaccinated elderly, who were mostly infected by family members.

Elderly people who are inoculated with booster jabs are 41% less likely to die from Covid-19 than the unvaccinated, the CVC said, citing a study that shows immunity works best against the virus after 7-14 days of being vaccinated.

The CVC is ramping up vaccinations in the build-up to the Songkran festival in the middle of next month.

For easier access to the vaccine, inoculations at Bang Sue Grand Station, the country's biggest vaccination centre, will be available for walk-ins.

The service is open to both Thais and foreign nationals and people can choose what vaccine they want, regardless of what dose they require.

Shots will be offered from 9am-4pm daily until the Songkran festival from April 13-15.

The station will be closed on Chakri Memorial Day on April 6 and during the Songkran festival. It will reopen on April 18.

Meanwhile, in Nakhon Si Thammarat, deputy provincial governor Trairat Chairat chaired a meeting with the provincial communicable disease committee on Wednesday to follow up on Covid-19 outbreaks in areas where the number of infections soared.

Last month, the province saw daily infections rise from 95 to a high of 2,832. An average of 1,900 people have tested positive a day after taking RT-PCR and antigen tests over the past week.

The number of infections is expected to begin falling in April and May, according to the committee.

So far, 1,208,539 people, or 79% of the province's population, have received a first dose of Covid-19 vaccine; 1,126,943 people, or 73%, have received a second, and 324,745 people, or 21%, have had a booster shot.
