Protests are small, but can be violent in Pattaya - STAY AWAY

Post by Gaybutton »

For photos and videos, see the actual article at: https://thepattayanews.com/2020/11/09/p ... ent-video/

Folks, I hope all of you, no matter where the protests are taking place - Bangkok, Pattaya, or anywhere else - have sense enough to avoid the protest areas and not to personally involve yourself with Thai protests and politics. It's too dangerous. I don't want anyone reading this to end up hurt or arrested. We have enough to worry about with the political situations in our own countries.

Pattaya Pro-Democracy protester appears to headbutt a Russian foreigner next to his young daughter and wife at rally following verbal disagreement

By Goong Nang(GN)

9 November 2020

A Russian foreigner suffered minor injuries and bleeding from his face after a Thai protester appeared based on video footage and multiple witness testimony to headbutt the foreign national next to his ten year old daughter last night in Pattaya.

A small Pro-Democracy protest gathered at 6:00 PM on Jomtien beach close to the Jomtien police box and Soi 1.

During the protest, A Russian foreigner, named as Mr. Vladislav, 52, and one of the protesters, Mr. Narathiwat ‘Ken’ Kamma, got into a verbal arguement. The exact nature of the disagreement was unclear but escalated despite several bystanders attempting to defuse the situation. Vladislav was accompanied at the event by his 10 year old half-Thai daughter and Thai wife.

Based on the video footage and multiple witnesses, Ken became verbally aggressive, using obscenities in English and Thai before headbutting Vladislav next to his ten year old daughter. Vladislav’s daughter was crying and visibly upset during the incident.

Mr. Vladislav suffered bleeding from his forehead and nose following the incident. He did not appear based on the video footage to be violent or aggressive beforehand, however, witnesses claimed he was making inappropriate and rude remarks to the protesters. This was not, however, captured on video.

It is unclear what the foreigner said prior to the incident. He did not appear to respond violently to the incident and remained calm following the headbutt. He was provided first aid. Vladislav is not a tourist, according to Thai police, and has been a long term Thailand resident.

Both parties were taken to the Pattaya Police station for further investigation. An update is expected later today, November 9, 2020.

Prominent protest leaders announce escalating protest at Ratchaprasong intersection of Bangkok this evening after physical altercations with police forces and pro-institution opposition yesterday at Parliament

By Nop Meechukhun

18 November 2020

A large crowd of pro-democracy protesters is planning to take over the Ratchaprasong intersection this afternoon and evening, November 18, claiming to be the biggest protest in the past months in response to escalating situations at the rally yesterday involving police and law enforcement forces and pro-institution opposition.

According to Bangkok’s Erawan Medical Center, at least 55 people were injured during skirmishes with the police and royalist counter-protesters. 32 of them were suffering from high-pressure water cannon injuries with teargas chemical-laced water and reportedly six injured people had been admitted to a nearby hospital after reportedly having gunshot wounds during clashes with opposition protesters in the evening.

Piya Tawichai, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, stressed that the riot police were in compliance with the law and denied that they had opened fire with live ammunition or rubber bullets against both sides of protesters but they will investigate who might have used firearms. No group has taken responsibility in regards to the reported gunshot injuries.

A massive crowd of demonstrators had converged on parliament as of 2:30 P.M. yesterday to monitor and put pressure on Thai MPs and Senators discussing several changes to the constitution under their proposed “People’s draft”, which requests the removal of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-O’Cha and his favored military-based government and the controversial reform of the powers of Thailand’s highest institution.

Despite some confrontations between police authorities and royalist supporters in the afternoon, pro-democracy protesters consistently advanced on the force with substitute shields, including inflatable pool ducks and abandoned police shields. After about six hours, police had pulled back and abandoned their water trucks and some police vans, which the protesters were seen spraying with graffiti.

Prominent protest leaders had called for the end of the demonstration shortly after some had made it to the in front of the Parliament’s gate at around 9:00 P.M. as the confrontation with opposition protesters became more physically intense as police retreated and pro-establishment supporters entered the area. Pro Democracy organizers, including popular protest leader “Penguin” had encouraged the protesters to gather at Ratchaprasong intersection at 4:00 P.M. today to await the result of the Parliament’s vote on the constitutional amendment bills.

This rally at the Parliament is considered by the protesters as the worst violence since a new youth-led protest movement had emerged in July following the end of the Covid-19 lockdowns in Thailand.

Meanwhile, the Bangkok police said that they would take legal charges on pro-democracy protesters for allegedly vandalizing government property and they are in the process of investigation before taking the protesters in question for legal processing.

The parliament session started again today at 9:30 A.M. and they will begin voting on the constitutional amendments this afternoon at 2:00 P.M.

The Thai government is now threatening a crackdown since the protests have become destructive and in some cases violent.

Again WARNING - STAY AWAY.

PM: All laws, articles will be used against violent protesters

19 November, 2020

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha gave notice on Thursday that "all laws and all articles" will be used against protesters escalating the political conflict.

Gen Prayut gave his warning in a statement issued from his office, in the face of continuing street rallies by anti-government protesters demanding his removal and reform of the monarchy.

He said that the government and all agencies had tried to find a peaceful way out of the conflict, following legal procedures under a constitutional monarchy.

However, the situation had showed no sign of easing, despite the government showing its sincerity to solve the problems. Security agencies had done their job in maintaining peace and order, closely monitoring the situation and dealing with protests with the utmost care, in line with international standards, the prime minister said.

“The situation is not easing in a good direction and there is a tendency for conflict to escalate into more violence. If not addressed, this could cause damage to the country and the beloved institution, as well as to peace and the safety of people’s lives and property," Gen Prayut said in the statement, which was in Thai.

“It is necessary for the government and security agencies to intensify their actions by using all laws and all articles to take action against demonstrators who break the law and show no respect for the rights of other people.

"Action will be taken within the country’s area of jurisdiction and to international standards."

The statement did not specify whether this action would include use of Article 112, the lese majeste law, which forbids insulting the monarchy on pain of draconian prison sentences. Gen Prayuth said earlier this year that it was not being used at the request of HM the King.

Many thousands of anti-government protesters packed into Ratchaprasong intersection during their huge rally on Wednesday night, again announcing their demands for the prime minister's resignation and reform of the royal institution.

Once again, STAY AWAY from these protests. One moron, the one in the white helmet, threw a pipe bomb at one of the demonstrations. According to the article the police have identified him, but have not yet found and arrested him.
