Thailand to UK - yippee!!!

Post by whitedesire »

Well, no more quarantine if you visit the UK from Thailand. One of the 50 countries! Take note Thailand to UK and not UK to Thailand, now, that's another set of rules.

What is your source ?

I've checked gov.co.uk and do not see Thailand on the exemption list. Vietnam is. I'd like to know the reasoning for excluding Thailand, as I'm fairly sure the figures show it's almost an order of magnitude better than some European countries. Presumably some issue with documentation or distrusting figures. Surely not reciprocity ?

All rather academic when Thailand won't let us in AND there are presumably no flights. Hypothetically, if the Thai side were OK, we could presumably spend a few weeks in Thailand, fly to another accommodating country on the OK list, stay there for 2 weeks and then go home.

UK quarantine isnt the same as State Quarantine in Thailand.
It is staying at home for 14 days without any form of government supervision.
Fully open to abuse.

There are supposedly random checks on compliance and a £1000 fine for breaking the quarantine at home.

How frequently this is done is the big question.

Some confusion here.
This is the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office List. The definitive document.
Thailand is not on it. Nor on the list published above.

Your're so right, Thailand nor Malaysia are on, very strange, they were earlier on, in the Telegraph but since taken off, very strange. Even Singapore which was on earlier taken off. I think the newspapers were making assumptions.

There are two reports:

The first link is the countries that the UK FCO have taken off the "all but essential travel" label, they say "The FCO updated its global advisory against ‘all but essential’ travel, exempting destinations that no longer pose an unacceptably high risk for British travellers." "This will mean that people can travel to a number of destinations overseas with regular travel insurance policies."

Whereby the second link I have posted, the countries are "exempt from quarantine upon your return. Reciprocal arrangements are not confirmed.

This is a mixed bag here, if you can work it out, let me know, the left arm doesn't know what the right arm is doing, according to Sky News, Thailand has been included in one list but not on the other. Yet the heading says 70 countries exempt from quarantine upon return to the UK, Sky News say the UK FCO have said also what countries will be exempt from "all but essential travel".

Hope that clarifies.

The first topic of this thread is the 14 day quarantine. The list I linked to is relevant to that and Thailand is EXCLUDED from that list. I see no rational reason for the exclusion.

Your link is for the separate matter of countries where the UK government advises against travel. Thailand has been removed from that list. I don't see why it was ever added to the list. Obviously this list is advisory, but obviously anyone going to a country on the list would require a specialist travel insurance policy, as the standard ones exclude countries on the list.

All rather academic, as full travel insurance is difficult to get, Thailand won't let us in and I presume there are virtually no flights available at present. Give it another couple of months.

Incidentally, neither link works at present.
