Thank you very much. I'm glad you found this. I probably never would have found it.

After installing it, I finally found an article about it:

New virus app a powerful tool

Users can assess infection risk and help health authorities with tracking to prevent spread

by Suchit Leesa-Nguansuk

10 Apr 2020

A new mobile app, Mor Chana, has been launched as a powerful tool to help people assess their coronavirus infection risk, assist health authorities in tracking users in close contact with infected people and prevent transmission among healthcare workers.

The app is the result of collaboration between state organisations and private developers. Data drawn from the app will be analysed by artificial intelligence (AI) systems to assist with continuing epidemiological studies by the Department of Disease Control (DDC).

“It took two weeks to develop the app with collaboration from volunteers, citizens and the private and public sectors, all of whom wish to support physicians and medical teams who serve as the front-line warriors in the fight against Covid-19,” said Anuchit Anuchitanukul, a representative of the development team.

The software developer group Code for Public and a group of software and data analysis specialists known as Chuay Kan Group helped build the app. They were supported by educational institutions, hospitals, public health authorities and other public and private organisations.

The app can be downloaded at https://morchana.app.link/download, as well as from the Google Play Store for Android devices and the iOS App Store.

Mor Chana can help identify individuals who have been exposed to virus patients by using GPS and Bluetooth technology to track their location.

Health authorities who use the app will be able to identify those who have been in close contact with infected people. This could also help prevent medical practitioners from contracting the disease.

“General app users who are not medical professionals can use the app to locate the risk areas and adjust their travel plans accordingly,” Mr Anuchit said.

Registration is done anonymously. Registrants can use only their mobile phone number for the process.

After answering health assessment questions they will receive risk level results shown in four colours: green (lowest risk), yellow (low risk), orange (risky) and red (high risk).

Risk level assessment can reduce the number of health professionals who contract the virus, particularly from patients who did not tell the truth about where they had been and who they had been in contact with, Mr Anuchit said.

He said Mor Chana has layers of privacy safeguards. All data collected is stored and displayed in an anonymous form. Users will be asked to share these records only when contacted by the authorities as part of contact tracing investigations.

Data from the app will be processed by the DDC iLAB analytic platform, which combines epidemiology analysis and AI to identify users who may be in proximity to infected people, said Sutthipong Phanthanalai, who developed DDC iLAB.

Digital Economy and Society Minister Buddhipongse Punnakanta said the app strictly complies with privacy and data protection laws.

An independent committee will be set up to monitor the data management process and ensure that procedures comply with conditions stipulated in the Personal Data Protection Act.

All logs will be deleted immediately after the crisis ends, Mr Buddhipongse said.

“This contact tracing approach will play a significant role in containing the spread of Covid-19,” he said. “It needs citizens to contribute to society by downloading it to help stop the viral spread and mitigate wider social and economic impacts.”

This is the post I made a couple of days ago:
Thanks for post GB. I had my first experience with it a few days ago at Villa Market in Little Walk (off of Sukhumvit). They also have someone that can help, which I definitely needed - my bf seems to be a whiz at using line features, but about all I can figure out is how to answer & send messages and photos. Since the scan feature is in Thai, I didn't have a clue of how to do that.

But, according to news articles, a Thai Chana App that includes having English as one of its available languages. However, so far, it is only available for Android phones with the IOS (iPhone) version imminent. I plan to download it to my iPhone as soon as it is available. It apparently makes the checking in and out a breeze (you can even "check out" after you have left the premises in case you forget to do so).

Like you, I could care less about being tracked. I do like the idea that if someone comes down with the COVID19 that was in the premises the same time as myself, I will get notification to get tested.

I didn't respond to some later comment because I couldn't find the article that mentioned the phone app (found it this morning before seeing this new thread on the subject - https://www.nationthailand.com/news/30388668

I also want to thank Mango for finding the name of the app - I had tried the Thai Chana search in the App store for iPhone, but as GB noted in his response to my above quoted message, he couldn't find one in the Google Play Store for his android phone. It would have been nice if the spokesperson in the Nation article had mentioned the App's name.

I have now found and downloaded the Thai Chana (Morchana) App to my iPhone. This should make it much easier than using the Line feature :D .

I hope it does make it easier, but I have not figured out how to use it instead of using LINE. What do you actually do? Is it as simple as just turning on the app and then you can walk in and out of the venues without having to do anything else?

The articles I've found explain what the app is, but I haven't seen a thing that explains how to use it.

Have you figured it out? If yes, please explain it.

When I click on the iPhone App, this is the screen that appears:

Image

It appears you click on the "scan" button and then center the QR Code in the circle - since the App is in English, it will probably have instructions for next step, e.g., button to click to take photo of Code. I presume that it will then have a next step to "close" the visit - to be used when you leave the premises.

At any rate, it looks like it will be simple to use and can be done quickly -- much better than trying to use the Line App features.

Thank you. I had not noticed the QR Code part. That must be it. Since downloading and installing it, I have not yet been anywhere requiring it, but I will certainly post if that is the way it works unless someone beats me to it.

there are three different options here and they are quite different so be sure you are choosing the right one that you want to use

1) Thai Chana Platform (web site)

2) Thai Chana App (Android or iPhone app)

3) Morchana App (Android or iPhone app)

Thai Chana platform is an "online platform" (a web site) - business owners use the web site to register their business (eg mall, shop, restaurant etc) and get a QR code for visitors to scan. Members of the public access the web site by using their mobile phone to scan the QR code at a business then selecting to check in (enter) or check out (exit) from the business on the web site. You can also optionally rate how well the business is conforming to regulations. The logging is done by phone number. This QR code scanning does not have to be done with the Line app (though this is usually suggested as it is assumed most people have the Line app on their phone), it can be done using any utility app that can scan QR codes, or on the most recent phones and OS versions maybe even the standard phone camera app. Otherwise you can manually enter your name and phone number in a paper log maintained by the business. Thai Chana was developed by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, and supposedly only the Department of Disease Control and the Ministry of Public Health will have access to this information and only for the purpose of disease control, eg if someone who later tests positive had also checked in at the same business as you at the same time

Thai Chana App is an Android or iPhone app that you download and install on your phone - it is a different (supposedly easier) way of submitting data to the Thai Chana platform/web site. The app was reportedly released to address some common problems with the use of the Thai Chana platform, eg people forgetting to "check out" (the app allows you to do that at a later time away from the business). While the Thai Chana web site is multi-lingual this app still appears to be Thai only. It seems to have been developed by Krungthai Bank and does not seem to have a privacy policy available.

Morchana App is an Android or iPhone app that you download and install on your phone - it is designed to track an individual's location by Bluetooth and/or GPS and advise users and relevant government health agencies of the risk of contact with high risk individuals. Permissions for location and Bluetooth tracking can be disabled, but this rather defeats the purpose of the app. An individual's risk assessment is based on a questionnaire done when you install the app. It can also be used to "check in" and "check out" at a business by scanning a QR code. The app was developed by the Digital Government Development Agency (Public Organization) (DGA) reporting to the Deputy Prime Minister Mr.Somkid Jatusripitak. Information is processed by the Department of Disease Control. The app does have an extensive privacy policy available.

neither of these options seem particularly useful - either for the government or the individual - as their use is not compulsory, many people seem to just ignore the QR and log points and just walk past, and the information is based on unverified user supplied data

the phone apps require very broad permissions and potentially pose a security and privacy risk themselves over and above the privacy issues of the concept, and while the claim is the data is strictly controlled and will not be used for other purposes and will be deleted once no longer required, individuals need to decide which, if any, of the options is worth their risk for any benefit gained - the apps are a harder sell than just using the QR code scan or paper log in my opinion
I can’t even be bothered to be apathetic these days!

I see everything about it except one little thing - where to get it. For Android phones all I've been able to find is the MorChana app. Many articles talk about a Thai Chana app, but the reporters don't seem to get the idea that they need to tell people exactly where to get it. I can't find it and I've grown tired of trying to look for it.

Since you seem to know, can you post a link to get the Thai Chana app?

Thank you Tree.

After reading the reviews of the Thai Chana app, I am not going to install it. I'm not thrilled with any of the apps, but since I have to use them, I prefer the MorChana app.
