Seeking opinions

The dessert menu was a separate menu so there was no way of knowing what was available. Ideally, the waiter could have told the dinners when presented with the main menu of the availability and wait for the chocolate fondant so it could have been ordered in advance.

People can excuse themselves for various reasons like going to the bathroom & spend a long time there doing something or other, or getting online, etc... as long as they excuse themselves

They didn't excuse themselves to go to the toilet. The got their bill, paid it and went outside to wait for the other guy (not me) who had hired the car for for all of them.

At least they were sporting enough to go Dutch, & did not leave behind unpaid bills. Anyway, too much dessert can be detrimental to your health.

lvdkeyes, I'm a bit curious: now that the dinner's a couple of days passed, what have the others in the group had to say about it (if anything)? I'm not looking for gossip, but was there any sort of consensus about it?

My vote's still with asking the others beforehand if anyone was in a hurry and if they minded if I ordered something that was going to take a while.

One said, "This is the last time.", meaning the last time to have dinner with those who walked out.

It was not a matter of anyone being in a hurry to go anywhere. Those who walked out still had to wait for the one who booked the car, so walking out accomplished nothing.

Each only had one dessert, so health was not impaired.

I sent an e mail to the restaurant and received a reply. I have deleted identifiers, but changed nothing else.

available, but there is a 13 minute wait. At that time diners could pre-order

Yes I did notice that 1 person who did not order dessert became inpatient. I
kind of felt that he slightly ruined the atmosphere at your table and probably
dampened the night.
I could possibly see if there is an available place on the main menu to write a
note about the Fondant but most regular customers that come here enjoy staying a
long time this is not a restaurant where people eat and run Im not sure if I
want to change my system just for 1 impatient person? I felt bad for the rest
of you guys that were trying to enjoy the evening and now you were being rushed
or made to feel bad for keeping others waiting.
Maybe next time you should advise him to go ahead without you or even better not
invite him I don't think that our way of doing things is his cup of tea.
