A small number of those might be influenced by people's incentive to maintain the status quo. People often predict what they want to happen, rather than consider what is likely to happen.
As for the flying one, apparently the first manned flight wasn't big news at the time and there were still people saying they didn't expect to see flight in their lifetimes AFTER the Wright brothers had flown.

My personal favorite is not on this article's list:
"Everything that can be invented has been invented".
Probably because it is controversial whether that was really said - and if it was said, who actually said it. The quote is attributed to Charles H. Duell, who was the Commissioner of US patent office in 1899.
I'm not sure how that quote came to be attributed to him, nevertheless there it is . . .
