Kim wins automatically for the mere fact that he can be the first N Korean leader to ever meet with a sitting U.S. President. He will undoubtedly posture the meeting as two world leaders with nuclear arms discussing strategies...placing him (in the eyes of his people) on an equal level with the most powerful country in the world...lot's of face there!
I imagine Trump will handle the situation OK as long as he sticks to the script. If there's a camera around all bets are off and we can look forward to World War III.

I don't see it taking place. Yes Trump has given the thumbs up to a meet but there are bound to be plenty of ifs and buts before it happens. They'll give Kim a list of must do's and he'll tell them to ram it. Just my guess.

That depends on who's writing the script, and based upon what's been going on with Trump's advisors - you know, the ones he never listens to and are leaving the White House in droves - it's not going to be an Oscar winning script.Dodger wrote:Trump will handle the situation OK as long as he sticks to the script.
I'm waiting to see the smiling greeting handshakes when they first meet, and later the reports of a failed summit. I believe the only way Trump should actually meet Kim face-to-face is if South Korea approves of the meeting and encourages it.
Kim wants an end to the sanctions, an end to American military presence on the Korean peninsula, and an end to the war games. Trump wants an end to North Korea's nuclear weapon program, dismantling of nuclear weapons Kim may already have, and dismantling of facilities that can produce nuclear weapons - and unlimited access for verification.
If nothing else, maybe Trump will manage to get releases for captive Americans and other foreign nationals held prisoner in North Korea.
I don't see the outcome as either of them getting much of what they want, but I hope the outcome will at least mean "Peace in Our Time," only this time for real.

I'm taking bets there will be no meeting. Trump needed to get the Porn Star off the front page. Good thing there are plenty of bedrooms in the White House . I'm sure Melania wants nothing to do with the PIG!

White House puts an asterisk on Trump, Kim Jong Un meeting......

Melania married money. Can anyone think of any other possible reason she would have married him? I'd want to put her through a lie detector test if she ever says she actually loves him - or ever did.firecat69 wrote:I'm sure Melania wants nothing to do with the PIG!
I shudder to think what she has to do and has to go through to satisfy our sainted, beloved president.
I just had another horrible thought - the very fact that Trump is president means potentially the day could come when his image appears on American money . . .

Surely the fact that the invitation letter was handed over to the South Koreans at their summit in the North and then handed by them to Trump in Washington is a clear indication they both approve and encourage?Gaybutton wrote: I believe the only way Trump should actually meet Kim face-to-face is if South Korea approves of the meeting and encourages it.
The latest question is: where will it take place? Unlike his father and grandfather he has not been a regular visitor to Beijing on the special Leader’s bomb-proof train. In fact, I don’t recall his having visited any country since becoming the head honcho. The North’s leaders don’t trust flying - assassination by bombs or missiles too easy. In fact it’s really hard to see the present Kim traveling anywhere to meet Trump. Would he trust the Americans enough not to blow his plane out if the sky and blame it on another country?
So would Trump actually fly all the way for a meeting in Pyongyang? Surely hugely unlikely! The propaganda value for Kim plus the American red faces if an Agreement is not reached are all too possible. Switzerland where Kim went to school has been mentioned. But that means a long flight. I don’t see it happening!
But before all that is fodder for the Sunday News shows, why did Trump permit the announcement of the summit and his acceptance to be made by the South Koreans in the White House Gardens with not one US government official present? In the enthusiasm of the moment, was this to give him a way out if he gets cold feet? And where does Tillerson go from here since clearly he hadn’t a clue this was all happening? I reckon that’s the easiest to answer - this most ineffective Secretary of State will be OUT!

I doubt that Trump would be looking for a way out. He doesn't seem to give a damn about what anybody thinks, so if decides against going, he'll say whatever he wants.fountainhall wrote:was this to give him a way out if he gets cold feet?
For now, I believe Trump fully intends to go, primarily because he thinks he can accomplish anything. If he goes and pulls it off, then to Trump supporters and those on the fence, now he's a big hero.
However, looking at how some of these things have gone in the past, I'm skeptical about the outcome. Woodrow Wilson campaigned on "He Kept Us Out Of War." Next thing we knew, we're in the middle of World War 1.
Roosevelt started out supporting isolationist policies. Then came Lend-Lease and World War 2.
Kennedy thought he could charm his way to success with his summit with Khrushchev. That didn't work out quite the way Kennedy hoped and next thing we knew, the Cuban Missile Crisis.
I hope Trump does go and I hope the meeting takes place in Pyongyang. That way a favorable outcome possibility might be for the North Koreans to arrest Trump and throw him into one of their gulags . . .

This is one of the reasons I really despise politicians. Always asking how things are going to look for themselves before anything else. Here's what I would do. Kim says he wants to talk. I'd say "Good to hear. Tell me when and where and I'll be there".fountainhall wrote:So would Trump actually fly all the way for a meeting in Pyongyang? Surely hugely unlikely! You talk face to face and you get past all the bullshit. No agreement? So fucking what. We tried but it didn't come to anything. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Propaganda value? Don't give a fuck.
