The comments in the above link are interesting.
Beavis and Butthead, the two bum bandits who insulted a religion with their private full moon party at a sacred temple should have the book thrown at them and face the full force of the law. They should receive the maximum fine and time in the monkey house as an example and a deterrent to other sacrilegious deviants. The US administration should turn the other bum cheek for their requests for help and maybe these pain in the asses will finally get the message that their days of bumming around are finished.

Their behaviour is inacceptable. Had they deliberately damaged or defaced the temple, or if this was not their first time in front of a Thai judge, then perhaps a custodial sentence would be proportionate to the crime. I have to agree with Windwalker, a small fine here would be an appropriate punishment.

By our standards, probably yes. But they did this in Thailand, where what they did is taken quite seriously and treated quite seriously.

If they didn't realize that before, they certainly do now. Even if nothing at all happens to them, they are probably humiliated and frightened and stand a good chance of ending up broke and jobless by the time they get back to the USA. Why do I think they probably voted for Trump?

Seems to me their cereal box is missing a few cornflakes.

Just what would motivate these morons to get their jollies by doing this in the first place - welcome to the latest entry on my "I Don't Get It" list.

Some of you are being far to judgemental.

Correct. I am using my judgement in saying they are total morons. They deserve a lot more than a fine and a slap on those fat ugly buttocks. They should be made to realise that this sort of nonsense upsets people of whose customs and beliefs they clearly made absolutely no attempt to understand. Idiots!

Either that or in this case perhaps some are not being judgemental enough . . .

Don't you get it? You don't go to Thailand and bare your butt at a religious shrine - and not only that, but follow up by posting the photo on a social media site, and then expect Thailand to respond with nothing more than a slap on the wrist - or butt.

By western standards, a fine would probably be considered sufficient. But Thailand does not go by western standards. By Thai standards, what they did was a serious felony and unless these two fools are very lucky, their idea of a joke is highly likely to be treated as a serious felony.

One wonders if they're going to have the guts to do this in a Muslim country.

Gay couple to be deported for baring bums in front of historic temple

Post by thaiworthy »

It's a travel trend?
The married couple were taking part in a travel trend known as the ‘belfie’, or bum selfie.

Immigration authorities have told the BBC the pair would be fined and deported.
Deputy spokesman of the Thai immigration police, Col Choengron Rimpadee, told the BBC: “Once they are through with the charges, the Thai immigration police will revoke their visas and push for deportation.
“They will also be blacklisted from coming back to Thailand.”

They have been charged with getting naked in public which violates criminal law and could carry a fine of up to 5,000 baht (equivalent to £115 or $154).

However some government and police officials claim the crimes could come with more serious sanctions.

The San Diego Gay and Lesbian News quoted a San Diego city commissioner as saying the men had asked for help.

The two men had an Instagram account called traveling_butts which showcased similar selfies taken at tourists sites around the world.
I am not sure how relevant, if at all, are the last six paragraphs of the story. I am not pasting them here because of some references to the King. In addition, there is a video of His Majesty, which shows him in a crop-top. Not at all the same subject matter as the featured story. The editor of Pink News has completely misunderstood the original point by including them and ought to get a good spanking.

Facebook is geoblocking this video of Thailand's King Vajiralongkorn so users in Thailand can't see it.

Whether you agree or disagree with the crime and possible consequences, they won't be shooting moons again in Thailand. They have been blacklisted and deported.

I'd like to see what would happen to them if they ever go to North Korea and bare their hind ends at the statues of the "dear leaders." Does anyone think the consequences would be limited to a US $150 fine and kicked out of the country?

I dislike how the press keeps making sure to include in their reports that they are gay. That contributes to stigmatization of gays and I, for one, fail to see how their sexual preferences are even remotely relevant to what they did. If they were not gay, would the news reports mention they are heterosexual? Somehow, I doubt it.

Temple-mooning California duo released, blacklisted

11 Dec 2017

Apparently unrepentant, the same-sex California couple who flashed their buttocks at two temples and posted the photos online have been kicked out of Thailand.

Police made no comment, but their release after nearly two weeks locked up was reported by the San Diego Gay and Lesbian News (SDGLN), which has been following the adventures of the disrespectful duo.

Joseph Jay Dasilva, 38, and Travis Larry-Spackman Dasilva, 36, were arrested on Nov 28 after authorities found photos of their Bangkok adventure on their Instagram page.

Immediately after their release from the police lockup, the Dasilvas resurrected the Instagram "travelling_butts" account that led to their arrest and internment.

They were fined 5,000 baht last week for public nudity after they posted a photo of themselves flashing the Temple of the Dawn, Wat Arun.

Authorities debated whether to charge them with posting pornography, a Computer Crime Act offence that could have resulted in a prison sentence of up to seven years.

According to SDGLN, the men appeared in court but the judge "threw out those charges and sent them back to immigration police to be processed for deportation".

There was no immediate confirmation from Thai police.

When they were arrested, Pol Col Cherngron Rimpadee, deputy immigration police spokesman, said, "Tourists should have respect for places of cultural, historical and religious importance because it is simple good manners."

"They are in a clean but cold (sic) cell and sleeping on the floor," the publication quoted the Dasilvas' friend Robert Rodriguez, who had been in touch with them.

"He adds that the married couple could get word they are going home in as little as 24-hours to as long as five days, it depends on how long it will take to process them," the publication added.

The Dasilvas received little love from the Thai or California public after their arrest for disrespecting the Buddhist temples and religion.

Social media in California supported their safe return but most commenters frowned on their actions

"People would probably expect the straight community to have a feeding frenzy upon hearing this news - which they did - but it was the unsupportive responses made by the LGBT community that surprised many," according to SDGLN, which all along stressed the arrest "was not an LGBT issue".

Early Monday, the top comment on the website said:

This isn't a gay vs stright issue. This is, 'I'm an American being dumb and thinking I can get away with it.' While I don't think it is a stoning offence (or prison for that matter), I do think that that the level of arrogance shown is unreal.

There's another type of "belfie" - travelling the world taking photos which include a large pair of low-hanging balls, shot from behind. I came across the site while surfing the net.

However, none of the photos I saw was taken in a religious setting.
