Thanks for the responses. I don't have, or expect to have, any ongoing relationship with this guy; I was really just asking out of curiosity. I don't think he was trying to mislead me, but it's entirely possible there was some misunderstanding or miscommunication; his English was imperfect and my Thai nonexistent. I doubt there were any outstanding warrants against him. He was living with his brother, so his family was no doubt aware of his situation. Hopefully whatever the problem was he's been able to resolve it.
