Is this the beginning of the end for Walking Street? Bars ordered to rip down signs
Bars, entertainment places and shops in Walking Street have been ordered to take down their neon advertising signs by the end of the month.
To many, the move makes no sense whatsoever, as no benefit to Pattaya could possible come out of this, but the authorities seem to disagree.
The order comes in a letter to all businesses in the famed South Pattaya street from deputy mayor Apichart Weerapan.
Bar owners are furious and say the move will have an adverse affect on their businesses.
They have appealed to the media to stop the move.
They have been told that many signs are illegal and represent a danger and are “obstacles”.
Tnews reported that two years ago the Pattaya Authority were concerned about the inability of fire trucks to get down the road in the event of a fire.
Tnews reported there was broad agreement to move signs higher up.
They said that many tourists disagreed with the plans.
Tnews intimated that the authorities felt the signage was bad for the image of the resort causing concern for operators in the area who were worried that the move was about more than just fire truck access.

Not that I would expect most of our board members to be spending much time on Walking Street, but do you know it's "A load of absolute bollocks"? If the answer is yes, what is your source of information?gerefan wrote:A load of absolute bollocks

I agree, but between that and Pattaya Daily News (which is even worse), there's no other local online daily news sources - at least none I know about. It's all we've got.gerefan wrote:written by a crap, awful, local rag
