Sam's Mexican Restaurant in Jomtien Complex has closed. What I have heard, but have not yet confirmed, is a gay bar is going to open in that location.
If anyone has further information, please post and let us know.

Sam told me that he sold the business and that a boy bar with guesthouse will now occupy the space. He also said that he is going back to the States for 2 1/2 months or so. When he returns he will look for a new location on Thappraya Road

Good news about a new gay bar in Jomtien. And I echo lvdkeyes' suggestion for a new cook for some quality Mexican food. Mikes and Tortilla Reef are good, but a local (to Jomtien) Mexican restaurant with equal quality or even better would be great.

Is there much of a market for Mexican food in Thailand? There are a few Mexican restaurants in the UK but it can hardly be termed a popular cuisine in Europe....US expats and visitors notwithstanding. And in other Asian countries?
Re: Sam's Mexican to become gay bar (?)
I never ate Mexican food there, but often had Thai food prepared by the owner's wife. So I'm a little disappointed it's closed

I think there is enough of a demand to support good Mexican restaurants. Mexican food doesn't seem to be particularly popular among Thais, but it does seem to be popular among farang. I don't know much about Mexican food, but I know what I like. Also, I've been to a number of restaurants where you might not expect it, but fajitas are on the menu.Oliver wrote:Is there much of a market for Mexican food in Thailand?
If we're going to start reviewing Mexican restaurants, let's please do that on the "Restaurant Reviews & Recipe Exchange" forum. Don't forget - this topic is supposed to be about the gay venue that is coming to the now former Sam's location.

At least it's not going to be another vacant lot (like you find in so much of Sunee).
(By the way, I liked Sam's Southern California Mexican style food.)

I quite enjoyed the food at Sam's Mexican.
Then again, I'm no expert on Mexican food.
Maybe these two statements go together. Some will think so.
I have never heard of Tortilla Reef.
Where is it?

That's because there is no Tortilla Reef. I believe he meant Tequila Reef. See: http://www.tequilareefpattaya.comneddy3 wrote:I have never heard of Tortilla Reef.
