"A Belgian has been killed by medical euthanasia after pleading for death because a botched sex change operation to turn her into a man had resulted in "a monster".
"Nathan, born Nancy, Verhelst, 44, was given legal euthanasia, most likely by lethal injection, on the grounds of "unbearable psychological suffering" on Monday afternoon.
Wim Distelmans, a cancer specialist who carried out the euthanasia, is the same doctor who late last year gave lethal injections to congenitally deaf twins who were frightened they were also going blind".

A sad case.
Also, in a separate report we read this poor man's mother rejected her at birth. The terrible psycological scars (s)he must have borne beggars belief.
Personally I am not in favour of euthanasia. However, I shall be watching the three countries in Europe that permit it (Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg) with interest.

Yes, a terribly sad case. The case itself, however, does bring up the subject of euthanasia. While I don't think indiscriminate suicide should be supported, I believe people with incurable health problems that are only going to cause them to go through hell before they die should have a means of ending it if they so choose. I don't think people should be forced to suffer. For what? If I find myself dying of some terrible disease and my wish is to die now rather than go through it, the choice should me mine, not somebody else's. I think that should be my right.Rogie wrote:I am not in favour of euthanasia.

I totally agree with GB. I have seen far too many people go through agony with incurable terminal illnesses. For what? As an aside, many of these people also suffer huge financial losses as a result of long hospitalizations where they eventually die.

I to agree, if the end is coming without hope and only suffering, yes put it to an end.
