Chiang Dao Nest

If you're looking for a getaway to the mountains, you might want to consider the Chiang Dao Nest, about 60km north of Chiang Mai on the road to Chiang Rai. Chiang Dao is Thailand's second tallest mountain and Chiang Dao Nest is right there. The reason I'm writing about it on the Restaurant Reviews forum is because they feature a gourmet quality restaurant. Out in the middle of nowhere, who'd-a-thunk-it?

Be careful of one thing, though. Geezer and I found out the hard way that one night per week the chef gets a night off. They only have a typical Thai barbeque that night, the quality of which doesn't even begin to compare to the nights the chef is there. Geezer and I were there only one night, and just our luck it was the wrong night! We didn't realize about the barbeque night until we already were there. According to their web site, the chef's night off is Thursdays. So, you want to be there any other night.

If this kind of area is something you enjoy, stay in their bungalows a night or two. They're very nice and the scenery is incredible. By the way, even though it is about as far out in nowhere as you can get, I had no trouble getting a good, solid mobile phone connection.
