I really do appreciate this thread. I am going to try those fish and chips places. Unfortunately, I have a problem with many of these suggestions. My boyfriend and I dine together when I am in town. Unless Thai food is served in addition to the farang food, he will not be happy. Do any of these fish and chip places offer Thai food as well? Except for the Red Palm, I'm wondering how many of these places have Thai as well. I think he likes Mexican, though.

Most restaurants that serve farang food also have Thai food available. But even if they don't, it doesn't matter. You can bet that very close by there is Thai food for sale. All that has to happen is for him to get some Thai food for "take out" and bring it over to where you're eating. Now you can eat together.

I know at least one very popular restaurant that doesn't even make the Thai food. They send out for it, but serve it on their own plates and at their own prices.

You can get Thai food at Simon's.

Last time I took a thai boy to SIMONS FISH and Chips they charged me 150 baht for a plate of thai food.
Incidentally the place has been on the market since 2009 due to the owner who is originally from England wanting to go back to Australia where he used to work as a manager of some transport service in Sydneys Circular Q
He wanted 3.5 million baht 12 months ago.

I like SIMPLE SIMONS much better.

I have always been amazed by this. If anyone tried to bring outside food into a restaurant in the US, they would be escorted out. If you brought in a bottle of whiskey into a bar here and expect to pay for the mixers and such, you would be shown the door. I wonder how this evolved in Thailand. If most restaurants and bars allow this, which ones don't? Could I go into some swanky rooftop lounge of a 5-star resort and bring my own bottle? How would I know which restaurants/bars allow this, without making calls to every establishment in town?

GB,

Absolutely 100% agree with you on this place. Ordered the Tortilla chicken soup, fajitas along with some chilli for 2 of us. Huge portions so was feeling rather stuffed afterwards. Great recommendation and I wish the owner success. By the way was nice to bump in to you ;)

It's always nice to meet board members. I'm glad you gave it a try and I'm glad you like it as much as I do. You bumped into me just as I was leaving. A few of my friends, also board members, want to give it a try. If I ever manage to succeed in prying them away from Jomtien, I'll send you a message and you'll be welcome to join us if you wish. One is almost sure to bring his Thai boyfriend. Your boyfriend will have someone to talk to while us farang are chattering away in our own gibberish.
