I don't see many people picking that area as a good place to try to cross. I suppose it wouldn't be all that difficult to take a shovel and dig under it just about anywhere along that fence line. But then what? It looks like the middle of a desert to me, nowhere near any form of civilization that would be of help to anyone crossing illegally. Whoever tries it better be able to take along plenty of water. It also looks like people better already have plenty of water just getting as far as that fence in the first place, much less crossing it.

Take away the plants and those few scattered buildings and now you might as well be on the surface of Mars. Not exactly the greatest area to try to cross.

And Bogart at least had mules . . .

What, by the way, became of the caravan? A short while ago the caravan was all you saw on the news (aside from Trump's daily fiascos). Now I can't find a thing about it.

I think it would be an excellent cost saving move if Trump fires all of his advisors and his entire cabinet - every last one of them. Trump doesn't listen to them anyway. He knows more and better than all of them. The savings in tax money for their salaries would be substantial. What's the point of paying these people when with a president like Trump renders their work entirely useless?

The latest is Brett McGurk, the envoy for the global coalition to counter ISIS, resigned because of Trump's decision to pull US forces out of Syria. Everyone is telling Trump this is a terrible mistake. I have yet to read about anyone telling Trump this is a good idea. But don't worry, Trump knows better than all of them.

And now Trump wants to fire Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, blaming him for the falling stock market.

Let's also not forget Trump's government shutdown because Congress won't give him his sacred border wall.

Have you noticed that Trump always blames everyone except himself? Yet another parallel to Hitler, who always did exactly the same thing. Everything was always somebody else's fault.

Is Congress ever going to have guts enough to do the right thing - either impeach and convict him or invoke the 25th amendment and get rid of him? All I know is I didn't vote for a congressman or senator to sit back and let this man destroy the country rather than have guts enough to stand up to him and remove him from office. The USA made its worst mistake since its existence by electing Trump. Now the country needs to own up to this mistake and get him out of office - pronto.

Someone must be telling him it is the right thing to do, Trump wouldn't have any idea at all in his head where Syria is or that the troops were even there in the first place.

I think it's the exact opposite. No one tells Trump anything. He wouldn't listen anyway! It's precisely because he doesn't know where Syria is or how dangerous ISIS remains or that the US will be leaving the Kurds to be massacred in due course by the Turks that he suddenly had this nice Christmas idea. He is so immersed in his world of alternative reality that his brain is incapable of accepting truth.

That is a major part of the problem. He thinks he knows better than everyone else, including the experts in every field there is, and he has convinced himself that what he does, says, and thinks is truth.

The guy is simply obsessed with money, that's his top and bottom line. The world politic doesn't mean anything to him. As far as he's concerned everyone is ripping the US off.

He sees the US spending money defending the West from enemies of the East and he ain't having it. Consequences don't concern him, only the immediate monetary bill for sending troops to other parts of the world.

I honestly don't see him deciding to go to war with anyone as long as they don't launch any attacks in America. I do wonder though, what he would do if there IS a major terrorist incident within the US.

Trump not only spouted lie after lie when he was in Iraq, he placed American specialist forces in danger.
Shortly after he left Iraqi airspace, Mr Trump proudly shared a video of what he'd been up to during the visit.

But it didn't take long for eagle-eyed watchers to point out something it seemed Mr Trump and his team might have missed.

It appears that those in the video include an elite US Navy Seal team, according to Newsweek. A team, the magazine pointed out, which would usually have their identities protected.

Malcolm Nance, a former US Navy intelligence specialist, told the magazine it would be a very unusual decision to picture them so clearly while on duty because, if any of them were captured, "there would be no denying who you are and what you do".

He also angered all sides in the Iraqi parliament who now want US forces out of the country.
President Donald Trump's surprise trip to Iraq may have quieted criticism at home that he had yet to visit troops in a combat zone, but it has infuriated Iraqi politicians who on Thursday demanded the withdrawal of U.S. forces . . .

The visit could have unintended consequences for American policy, with officials from both sides of Iraq's political divide calling for a vote in Parliament to expel U.S. forces from the country.
