Trackdown Shakedown

As far as I can tell from reading about it, as long as Kushner is not appointed to a position such as a cabinet member, not appointed to a position that would place him in direct control over anything the government does, and as long as his salary does not come from a government source, then there is no violation of the law.

I understand your point but I disagree. JFK could not appoint Bobby AG under today's anti nepotism laws.

That's right. He would have been in a position to have direct control over much of what the government does. However, JFK could have appointed him as an unpaid advisor. The anti-nepotism law came into effect during Lyndon Johnson's administration.

It's lucky Bobby was Attorney General at the time. It was Bobby who did most of the behind-the-scenes actions during the Cuban missile crisis. It was Bobby who came up with the blockade idea and it was Bobby who did the direct negotiating with the Russian ambassador and made the deal that ended the crisis and prevented a nuclear war.
