Another Movie About Gay Conversion Therapies

Post by fountainhall »

In the second major film of the year to deal with gay conversion programmes, “Boy Erased” is scheduled to open in the USA in early November. Based on a true story set in the southern USA, the trailer has just been released.

Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe play the fundamentalist parents of Gerrard Conley, a late teenager who admits he is gay. The father is about to be ordained as a Baptist pastor. He cannot accept his son being gay and basically tells him he has to choose between being gay and living with his family. The son is then sent to a gay conversion therapy programme.

Gerrard Conley’s book garnered excellent reviews. I won’t spoil the movie by revealing the outcome. Oscar nominee (for “Manchester by the Sea”) Lucas Hedges plays Gerrard.
