This might in itself be a form of discrimination by suggesting what positions are right for whom.

Whether it is or isn't, that's exactly what any military does. You don't want to put somebody who would be just right for the Navy Seals in the kitchen and you don't want to put a boy such as the one in the video in the Navy Seals. The military decides who is needed where - none of which is any reason to deny a transgender admission to the military if that's what he/she wants to do.

Not so for the navy seals, people opt to join the seals, but in general the military decides who is the best fit where, and yes there are all sorts of positions that can be filled by all sorts of people, but what works in Thailand may not work everywhere. The U.S. military has come a long way:

No one would be happier than me if Trump turns out to be the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln. His remarks on the 60 Minutes interview are reassuring, but Trump is going in with a Republican congress and as soon as he gets a chance, a highly conservative Supreme Court.

Congress makes the laws, not Trump. And the laws ultimately are upheld or declared unconstitutional. I hope they'll uphold all the LGBT rights. In the end, Trump will have the power to sign legislation or veto it.
