I haven't seen any positive results using lemon grass (Citronella) unless you actually rub it against your skin. This is how the natives in Issan do it and it really works. But just tossing a few sprigs in a room won't do it.

Citronella sprays are available and seem to work in my experience. The biggest issue is remembering to apply the stuff & remembering to take a bottle with me. I've added it to the checklist of items to pop in the daytime rucksack.

When I've been visiting Thailand in December, mozzies have not been too common. However, they are virtually assured in certain places, such as the "Sketchbook Art Cafe" on the way back up the hill from Jomtien. They have citronella spray on the tables.
