For some time now the W Hotel at the corner of Sathorn and Chongnonsi not far from the Skytrain station has hosted a Boys’ Night on Wednesday evenings at its Woobar on the left as you enter. Drinks are at normal prices but there is also free flow prosecco for two hours from 8:00 pm for just Bt. 400 per person. A DJ plays disco and other music.
I have been with friends twice now. Last week the bar was almost completely empty with only a handful of others, all Thai. With the music quite low, we had a nice chat with a nice youngish Thai couple. Last night, though, it was completely packed. Again it was almost exclusively Thais and a few other Asians. We reckoned virtually all were middle-class Thais seemingly aged from mid-20s to sixtyish with the average around mid-30s. And the music was at a far higher level which made chatting more difficult.
The other problem we noted is that almost all the Thais arrived in groups. We saw one lone Asian who seemed to be Thai. He soon joined a larger group. Clearly it’s an event which so far only attracts a few farang. But for anyone wanting to try and meet a different group of Thais from those going to Soi 4 and other gay areas, it might be worth a try.
Anything and everything about Thailand
