According to the article, and subsequent articles, she failed to show up in court for the verdict and claimed illness, but her attorney presented no medical evidence to verify that.

Now her 30-million baht bail money has been seized and a warrant has been issued for her arrest. Unless she can prove she really had become too ill to go to court - coincidentally on the very day of the verdict - the court is unlikely to take kindly to that.

At the time of this post, her whereabouts are unknown.

There is speculation she may be on the run. If that is the case, it makes no sense to me. If she wanted to run, she could have done so long before now. The only way that would make any sense would be if she somehow received reliable advance notice that the verdict would go against her and she would be looking at a very long prison term - and if she has somewhere to go where she knows she will be safe from extradition and will still have plenty of money.

However, if she is on the run and is caught before she manages to get out of Thailand, she'll be in BIG trouble - even if she was going to be cleared of all charges.

If she has indeed fled, I doubt it will take very long before both she and Thaksin try to justify it somehow.

Also, if indeed she has fled, it will be interesting to see if her supporters are still supporters or whether they feel betrayed.

The Prime Minister has already issued a "Find her" order.

If they can't find the Red Bull heir, how will they find her? Or maybe they don't really want to.

"One Channel" 31 Thai news is reporting just now that she drove to Cambodia, flew to Singapore and then to Dubai.

Based on the following, it is certainly understandable why Yingluck may have fled. Since there have been no reports of her whereabouts and no reports of her capture, along with such a lame excuse for failing to show up in court, my guess is she has fled. She didn't take any of these people with her, but if she has indeed fled, why do I think Thaksin probably arranged it?

I too have seen reports stating that she fled to Cambodia, followed by flying by private jet to Singapore, and then on to Dubai, but the reports I've seen have said that information so far is unsubstantiated. My first question would be how did reporters find out this information, but the government didn't, at least not in time to stop her? Reports also state that she has been under surveillance, so the next obvious question is how did she manage to get to Cambodia without anyone realizing it? How did she even get out of Thailand and into Cambodia? You may recall that Thaksin was already out of the country when he was overthrown.

I have a feeling there are going to be heads rolling.

If those reports are true, she certainly didn't come up with this escape scheme just this morning. This had to have been planned and set up well in advance. I can't help but wonder how much money changed hands and into whose hands the money went.

There has been no publicity yet as to whether the court found her guilty or what the sentence would be, although some articles have stated she could get as much as 10 years in prison. Just why these others ended up with sentences 4-times-plus as long as opposed to what Yingluck could get has not been explained, at least not explained in any articles I've seen.

In any case, if she fled and has already made it out of Thailand, she's gone.

Boonsong gets 42 years, Poom 36 years in rice sales case

The Supreme Court for politicians has sentenced former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyapirom to 42 years in jail and his former deputy Poom Sarapol to 36 years in the government-to-government rice sales case.

Manas Soiploy, former chief of the Foreign Trade Department, was sentenced to 40 years in prison while his deputy Tikhumporn Natvaratat got 32 years. Akharapong Theepwatchara, ex-director of the department's Rice Trade Administration Bureau, got 24 years.

Apichart Chansakulporn, an executive of the rice exporter Siam Indica Co Ltd, was sentenced to 48 years. Along with his company, he was also ordered to pay 16.9 billion baht in damages to the Finance Ministry.

Other defendants also got jail terms and had to pay damages in proportion to their crimes as well.

Eight of all 28 defendants were acquitted. Two of the defendants reportedly fled so their sentences were not read on Friday.

After the ruling, the defendants were taken to Bangkok Remand Prison in Chatuchak district pending the court's decision on their bail requests.

Chutichai Sakakorn, a prosecutor in the case, said the public prosecutors did not oppose their bail. He also said his team would review the ruling before deciding whether to appeal the acquittals and the damages, which were lower than what they had suggested.

Sa Kaeo immigration officers step up vehicle checks in search for Yingluck

August 25, 2017

Immigration police and troops at the Aranyaprathet border checkpoint in Sa Kaeo province on Friday stepped up their checks of vehicles leaving the country as part of the search for former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

The ex-PM had failed earlier in the day to attend the Supreme Court to hear the judgement in the rice-pledging case against her.

At 10am, Sa Kaeo immigration police chief Pol Colonel Benjapol Rodsawat issued an urgent order for officials manning the checkpoint to strictly check all vehicles leaving the Kingdom.

Following the order, the immigration police and troops opened all vehicles to check the passengers. They especially examined vehicles with Cambodian license plates.

Benjapol also sought help from Colonel Nirot Thongmuan, commander of the 12th Ranger Taskforce, Maj-General Hathaitep Kirati-angkul, commander of the 19th Army Circle, and Aranyaprathet district chief Soawanit Suriyakul to intensively check vehicles travelling on border roads in the district.

I think the Junta is probably happy as she is gone and can't be a martyr for her followers.

I suppose nothing should surprise us but it's interesting to compare two cases, one mentioned earlier by Thewayhelooks

Yingluck, it seems has done a bunk and immediately an arrest warrant is issued. Given it has just been announced that others in the rice pledging case have been sentenced to 48, 42, 36, 32 and 24 years respectively, it seems certain Yingluck will have been tipped off and indeed done a bunk.

Yet it was all of five years ago that the Red Bull heir, Vorayuth Yoovidhya, mowed down and killed a policeman driving his Ferrari in the wee small hours on Sukhumvit at speed and with various substances in his blood. You would have thought that this young man would have been immediately arrested. He was not. He has also failed to appear at no less than eight Court hearings over the years. In the meantime he has flown in and out of Thailand on his private jet with seeming impunity, often attending F1 races and other high profile international events. A local arrest warrant was only issued four months ago and a month later his passport revoked. By then he had fled to Singapore and from there to parts unknown leaving his jet behind in the island state.

But it still took the authorities another three months before finally asking Interpol to issue a Blue Notice to locate Vorayhuth and provide information about his whereabouts. This is all but meaningless since it does not give Interpol the right to do anything but notify. The much more effective Red Notice authorises Interpol to arrest the suspect and have him extradited. Who has enabled Vorayuth to escape trial and who requested the Blue Notice rather than a Red Notice remains unknown. But as the Thai media has noted with increasing outcry, the greasing of palms with massive amounts of tea money would be a piece of cake for a man whose family is worth of about 20 billion dollars.

If Yingluck surfaces overseas, presumably the authorities will be happy that she is keeping her brother company. No doubt many in positions of power are also perfectly happy to ensure the chances of Vorayuth facing justice prior to the expiry of the statue of limitations on one of the charges on September 3 are non-existent. Indeed one charge has already expired. His case involved the murder of a policeman, yet the maximum jail time he can now expect if ever found is 10 years.

10 years for murder hardly seems to equate with 48 years for graft and incompetence!

I'm waiting to see if her followers are glad she did this or feel betrayed since all along she has been saying she will fight her case in court and accept the outcome.

I wonder why she even bothered with that lame illness excuse.

Maybe Yingluck is linking up with that crooked monk who scammed the entire Buddhist population last year. He slipped away from the DSA with billions of baht and is probably somewhere like Dubai enjoying life right now. No wonder Dubai's economy is doing so well.
