Watching US Sports in Thailand

Post by RichLB »

I've heard about this device called a KODI, but doing a Google search about it left me more confused than ever. First off, does it work in Thailand? I know there are streaming sites (FronRowSports and MyP2P) that allow watching US sports, but they are often spotty. Will using a KODI provide reliable service? If anyone has experience with this device, any input would be appreciated.

I am using Kodi - enjoyed a nice movie last night & am currently watching previous episodes of West Wing and two series with Derek Jacobi - Cadfael and I Claudius. I have it on a "black box" (android) along with several other providers, Terrarium, etc. The box connects to my modem by wifi.

So, Kodi is not blocked in Thailand, at least not on my ISP - but, there has been a crackdown on the selling of the black boxes (now requires obtaining a license to import). Although several "add ons" for streaming video ceased their operations because of pressure (lawsuits) being done in USA (maybe UK also?), I have not had a problem finding movies/tv shows.

Although the person I acquired my "black box" from programmed it with several providers including Kodi - I could not find any source for USA sports telecasts. For that, I subscribe to USTVnow - broadcast channels are free, but you have to subscribe if you want ESPN and other premium channels. I have their website on my Samsung Smart TV so I can watch the games on my 55" curved screen - beats watching it on the computer monitor which I was doing before getting the Internet (Smart) capable TV - it, like my black box is connected through my WiFi - so far, no buffering problem (I have a fiber optic connection).

I thought I would resurrect this thread from a while back, since I posted on this thread, Kodi and for a while Terrareum went by the wayside. So, using that great specialist Mr. Google, i did some research and found some additional apps that would provide movies and tv shows to watch and how download them - there are several YouTube videos by folks showing how to do this, but most want to use the Amazon Fire Stick, which is not quite the same way you would do a regular android TV box. However, with some trial and error, I did manage to become proficient in getting the apps I wanted, including a Terrareum clone -- works okay for TV shows, but often have buffering problems with movies -- another app, Cinema HD works well and doesn't have the buffering problem.

A few weeks ago, my Android TV Box conked out on me. As mentioned, when I obtained it, I got it already programmed from an expat friend that used to import them, paying as I recall about 10,000 baht for the "pre-programmed" box. I knew I could order a Fire Stick or another Android TV Box from Amazon (not expensive, but even with shipping and customs, less costly than what I paid originally). But, I though I would give Lazada a try - it turns out, they have a substantial number available from around 600 baht on up for the ones with better features.

I ordered one through Lazada from Mastersat in Bangkok (of course there are many other stores offering them through Lazada) as they had the same brand (has a "Q" on the box) as the one I was using - only it had more bells and whistles (more memory, storage, dual band WiFi, and preloaded with some apps including basic Kodi app) - the price was 2,290 baht with free shipping. The package was delivered a few days after ordering - opened the package and it was not the one I ordered :o . Before contacting Lazada to send it back, I decided to do some research on Google for the one they sent (TK T95K Pro) and found it had all the same bells and whistles. Next step, back to Lazada and Mastersat to see if it cost as much as the one I had ordered - it was priced at 2,490 or 200 baht more than I had paid. So, I kept it - hooked it up to my TV HDMI port and logged in to the 5GB band on my dual band WiFi router, and it works great. The pre-loaded apps were not those for movies & TV shows, so the next step was to get some apps.

The method I use is to download and install the Filelinked App, which is the doorway to several sites that have apps available for download if you have the code for that site -- I obtained three codes from YouTube video presentations. So, going to one of those sites, it was easy to locate, download and install Terrareum, Cinema HD, and some others. So, I am now again enjoying movies and TV shows - new as well as old.

I thought I would pass this info on to those that may have an interest in obtaining an Android TV Box or, if they have one, on how to download and install some additional apps. Here is a link to the one that I rec'd and well pleased with: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/andro ... BwYW2&mp=1

You can PM me if you want more information.
