Full details to follow but there was a massive and I Mean MASSIVE raid tonight Soi 17.
Police, Army, the lot there and they impounded EVERY motorbike driven by an Arab. Hundreds of them...
Pics and details to follow tomorrow when I can get on a proper iPad

That is great news, I was in front of Nice Boys at 10:30 and the races were in full swing.

Best news I've heard for months...are the Thai police having a big bike sale soon?

Finally! I only wish I was there to see it.
I would think most of those motorbikes are rented. If the Middle Easterners are forced to pay the impound and storage fees, justice served. If the rental agencies have to pay, maybe they'll refuse to rent to Middle Easterners ever again. That would be nice. If they drove like normal human beings, there never would have been a problem in the first place. I can't believe they behave like that at home.
I wonder what spurred the police into action after this had been going on for so long.
And when Songkran rolls around again, maybe their behavior during that time period will result in a few arrests for assault. Sounds good to me.
Maybe stories and photos about this will appear in the local news media.
Definitely looking forward to seeing gerefan's photos.

Sounds like they were politely scolded and told to move on.

Yes, but gerefan was right there and said he saw the police impounding the motorbikes. That sounds like much more than a polite scold to me, despite the article that appears in The Nation.mahjongguy wrote:Sounds like they were politely scolded and told to move on.
At the time of this post, nothing about this in the local news media yet.
I'm waiting to see what gerefan will be able to tell us more about what he witnessed.

I'm pretty sure that at home, they do not have access to high powered motorcycles so they go wild when they are in Thailand. Add to that their usual level of disrespect of the local population who, as non-Muslims, do not merit their consideration. These young Arabs would not behave the same way (nor tolerated to such an extent) in Malaysia or Indonesia.
