Anybody know if Rausaut is a Thai name.

Post by Montree »

Does anybody know if there's a Thai boy's name something like "Rausaut"? I'm trying to find a guy but when I ask I get the impression that I've probably got the name wrong. He did spell it for me once but I might have got it wrong.

Often there is no distinction between names for males and females. However, I am not familiar with a Thai name similar to the name you're talking about.

The way you've written that it sounds and looks like French more than anything.
Cheers ... ( and just one more reason why I love living in Thailand )

Is it first or family name? in what phonetic language is it written as this-can also make a lot of difference (did you know that Sayeed and Zaiet and Caheet- are in fact all the same muslim names in 3 languages?). But as such it does not sound like a tipical Thai name.
What you tipically hear from Thai guys is their nickname-nearly always a 1-syllable quite short word-though often now also some farang word (bank, guy, boy, f.e.)

It was his nickname and I got him to spell it because it sounded unusual. It definately started RAU but after that I'm not so sure. I suppose there is a chance that even though he claimed to be Thai he might have been from Cambodia or Loas. Thanks anyway, it's not that important.

You had asked if it might be a Thai name. I doubt it, but the closest to that name I've ever heard would be roughly pronounced "reeYOO".

It would seem the answer to my question is "No". Thanks.

In that case, since Thais quite often make no distinction between male and female names, the boy Montree is looking for might very well be living in Thailand. One or both of his parents could be Hindi speakers who live in Thailand and the boy merely kept the name rather than using a typical Thai nickname.
