Info for Americans: when you purchase a Bank Draft from Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn Bank, or Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), bring your U.S. passport; you will need it.

The American embassy outreach session today in Pattaya went very smoothly. I was in and out in one hour even though there were 260+ expats getting notarial or passport services. It helped that the embassy staff set up two separate tables (rather than the usual one table).

Meanwhile, the Bangkok embassy has announced additional outreach sessions for 2017, including two more in Pattaya:

2017 SCHEDULE
PATTAYA: Friday, March 3, 2017
KHON KAEN: Friday, March 10, 2017
CHIANG RAI: Friday, March 10, 2017
PHUKET: Friday, March 17, 2017
UDON THANI: Friday, July 21, 2017
PATTAYA: July 2017
PHUKET: July 2017
PATTAYA, PHUKET, KHON KAEN: November 2017

This morning I was in the American embassy. I asked if it is true that only a bank draft is acceptable now at an Outreach, but not acceptable for payment at the embassy.

That is correct. At the embassy they will take cash, credit card, or Thai bank debit card, but not the bank draft.

When I asked why, I doubt many readers here would be surprised by the fact that I received no coherent answer.

Next Outreach visit to Pattaya will be on Friday, July 14, 2017 - https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/consular-outreach/.

In the past, they visited in June, which was convenient as my renewal date is July 10 - looks like a trip to Bangkok for me to get the income letter this year :x

Note that they are only in Pattaya for two hours this visit.
I'll bet the lines will be long.

I hope they won't turn people away if they arrived within the specified time. I doubt they would do that, but if it were me, I'd be there very early. The safe side is the side I like to be on.
