Apparently Christian has taken this trip on the new ferry service. Some photos and text of his journey on his Blog: http://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2017/0 ... a-hin.html
Cheers ... ( and just one more reason why I love living in Thailand )

You certainly can't beat Christian for detail. Obviously, the boat being used now does not take cars. When they start using boats that take cars, that's when I'll make the trip.

The one detail that interests me, but was not in Christian's report - is there an outdoor deck if you don't want to sit inside the whole trip?

The following was in his report: "Passengers have to stay inside throughout the trip, pictures taken through window" - so my guess would be there's no outdoor deck.

Thanks Smiles, but after ChristianPFC remark about Hitler on Sawadtee Gay Forum I no longer read anything of his.

That is good news. I wish they would tell us when, or even if, they will start running ferries that can carry cars.

Also, I wonder if their plans include eventual additional routes.

There is still some misinformation around:
The ferry will run from the Bali Hai pier to Hua Hin's Saphan Pla in Prachuap Khiri Khan.
It's not going to Saphan Pla, it's going to Khao Takiap pier in Hua Hin.

As for taking cars across the gulf, that would require considerable changes at the existing piers, or construction of completely new piers, or using piers that are far away from Pattaya or Hua Hin (no problem for people with car, but how do those without car get there?).
