Re: Dollar Breaks 35 Bht.
I don't know is if "the sky is the limit" but the dollar is uniquely placed at the moment with the GBP dropping and signs that the fed. will likely raise interest rates by their Dec. meeting and it is once again the reserve currency as the E.U. ponders it's long term fate and parts of the world are in the midst of a total upheaval. Hillary's win will be the next significant boost as the markets will see her win as "business as usual".Alex wrote:The sky is the limit, this time.

ATM withdrawal today using VISA atm card returned an exchange rate of 35.1. The baht continues to weaken, last check 35.7, and the SET continues to fall with news about the King.

Since I've already put my head on the chopping block with my flood prediction, I'll go out on a limb and predict 40 THB per USD by the end of the year.

I agree with your prediction but not for the reasons I've mentioned before and I think it could happen sooner than year's end.Alex wrote:Since I've already put my head on the chopping block with my flood prediction, I'll go out on a limb and predict 40 THB per USD by the end of the year.

If you turn out to be right, no complaints from me.Alex wrote:I'll go out on a limb and predict 40 THB per USD by the end of the year.
But while the dollar is gaining value against the baht, the pound is still dropping. I truly do feel badly for those relying on the pound, especially for those living in Thailand on the retirement visa. People from the UK have to prove their income, and actually prove it before they can get a proof-of-income statement. If the pound continues to drop, some may be unable to prove sufficient income to remain eligible for the retirement visa. Also, it could mean holiday cancellations or far less money being spent while in Thailand. That won't do the boys any good, especially since the most common complaint among the boys these days is "No have customer."
