Re: No Problem For Nazi Symbols in Thailand

I am not in the least surprised at that young man's lack of knowledge of history and am sure it is quite common in Thailand - sadly. As for the swastika, it is actually used facing both left and right in Buddhism and other religions, although straight rather than at an angle. There is a very promine...

Re: Trump at G7 - Caption This Photo

Twitter users have had a field day with variations on that photos. These are from The Guardian today - https://image.ibb.co/bM6xk8/Df_WPRYIX0_AATLiu_jpg_large.jpg https://image.ibb.co/cN3MCo/Df_Rk_RAGX0_AAPw_UR_jpg_large.jpg https://image.ibb.co/fRTA58/Screen_Shot_2018_06_11_at_11_52_56.jpg

Re: No Problem For Nazi Symbols in Thailand

The swastika is an ancient sacred symbol venerated in Buddhism. It would be rather hard to ban it in a country like Thailand. Not sure, though, why its non religious use on a Nazi flag still renders it acceptable.

Merkel: "Donald! Why do you wear such long ties? To cover up your open flies? Always ready for the next Storm(y), no doubt!"

Re: Trump at G7 - Caption This Photo

More a little scenario than a caption, but here goes -

Merkel: "You smug little man, You are stiffing your allies."
Trump: "Of course I'm not. Anyway, how many times do I have to tell you? You're just spouting fake news. My hands ARE bigger!"

Re: Anthony Bourdain

Very sad. 61 is still middle age now. He seemed to revel in life and bringing life from so many diverse countries into our own lives. Yet it is obvious from all the tributes that he was dealing with this own demons. He'd been through very rough times until about 15 years ago including booze and all ...

Re: What would you do?

GB's summary is correct. His only other anti-social nasty habit, which may or may not be against Starbucks new policy, is that for months beforehand he had been sitting regularly in the cafe, purchasing nothing, reading its newspapers and writing obscene comments against articles. There is one part ...

Re: Airbnb Sinking in Japan

I did not intend to put words into firecat69's mouth and so happily withdraw the "prediction". As I have stated I am new to Airbnb and perhaps I have some preconceived notions I need to revise. Certainly I was not happy with what's on offer and the prices in Taipei. On the other hand, havi...

Re: Airbnb Sinking in Japan

I’m not sure firecat69’s general prediction is likely to prove true. Fully 3/4 of all tourists to Japan are from just four markets - China, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong. And these represent the fastest growing markets. My gut feel is few of these visitors will be the Airbnb market - at least no...

Re: Airbnb Sinking in Japan

"This stinks -- and that's an understatement," Airbnb said in a statement, adding it would fully refund cancelled reservations and was also creating a $10 million fund to compensate affected travellers. The popular holiday rental site had already suspended the listings of owners who had n...
