Re: Heavy rains and flooding expected in Thailand due to Typhoon Mangkhut

No rain yesterday in Bangkok as far as I was aware and a beautiful sunny morning today. Looking at the chart showing the anticipated progress of the now downgraded typhoon, I'd suspect it is unlikely to hsve more than a minor affect in Thailand. Seems now to be moving north north west in China's Yun...

Re: Another Sexual Molester for the US Supreme Court?

If he really did do what has been alleged, then he has lied - and that surely is enough to kill his nomination. With full open hearings now scheduled for next Monday, it looks like we are in for another Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas battle. At least this time the Republican senators will surely not har...

Another Sexual Molester for the US Supreme Court?

Yes, I know. It's a rather silly headline. But with Clarence Thomas now having been on the Supreme Court for over a quarter of a century and in the light of the allegations being made about Kavanaugh, this time again by a Professor, it's a question that has to be asked. Thomas has been the most sile...

Re: Typhoon Manghut now heading directly to Hong Kong

There is an amazing short vdo shared on social media of containers at one of Hong Kong's container ports being blown around like skittles - 3rd vdo down on this article - https://www.news.com.au/technology/online/social/incredible-pictures-of-typhoon-destruction-in-hong-kong-shared-on-social-media/n...

Re: Typhoon Manghut now heading directly to Hong Kong

CNN is reporting that Typhoon Mangkhut lashed Hong Kong for 12 hours but the territory survived relatively unscathed despite Mangkhut being one of the most ferocious in recent decades. Sustained winds of 173 kilometres per hour with gusts of up to 223 kph were recorded in the afternoon. The storm su...

Re: Heavy rains and flooding expected in Thailand due to Typhoon Mangkhut

It started this afternoon around 3:45 in Bangkok. Now it is still raining and there is thunder but the amount of rainfall is just like a gentle shower - far less than the bucketloads we had in the late afternoons in the middle of this last week.

Re: Typhoon Manghut now heading directly to Hong Kong

That's fine as long a the power doesn't go out. Fair point but I have never known power to go out in the commercial and residential districts during a typhoon - ever! You have to remember that power cables in Hong Kong are underground - so it’s totally unlike The Philippines and much of the USA. Pe...

Re: Typhoon Manghut now heading directly to Hong Kong

My opinion - If you are in Hong Kong or anywhere within the storm's path, if you can get out, then get out - right now ! Don't let yourself become one of the people who think everything will be ok, and then when it's too late, discover the hard way you were wrong. Normally I would entirely agree. B...

At the time, I was in Dansai in Loei for the Phi Ta Khon (Ghost Festival). Although on a slight tangent, I was at the Dansai Ghost Festival in 2014. It is a fabulous week-end. For anyone interested there is a report and photos here - http://gaybuttonthai.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8649&p=84241...

Re: British Airways Hacked - 380,00 Credit Card Details Stolen

I was a Gold Card member of BA's Executive Club for 12 years until 2012 and Silver for another 3. Since a couple of economy trans-Atlantic flights and several inter-Europe flights in mid-2015 I have not flown BA and hopefully never will again. The days when Joan Collins would purr on its TV commerci...
