Re: Plastic bags on their way out

Do what they do in California cities. No plastic bags for shopping, bring your own bag, or be charged for a paper bag. My Thailand solution would be, charge 20 baht for a plastic bag..... I can hear the Cheap Charlie's gasp.

Re: Pattaya's Best Burger

First time I ordered Med and it was perfect, perhaps really med rare and that's fine with me. Second time I ordered Med again and it was cooked well done and was dry. Ditto. My first I ordered med rare but it was med or med well but still tasty. The staff uses Ipads and now I insist on looking at t...

Re: ACH transfers from USA to Bangkok Bank -Alert!

I initiated a transfer for $2100 early Wednesday morning (before close of business in NYC) using TransferWise. The money posted to my BB account around 2:00 pm this afternoon. Much faster than my previous experience. From Thailand, if you need money quickly, I recommend initiating the request on a M...

You don't have to go inside the bank, they have update passbook machines, atm's, deposit cash machines on the outside.

Re: Retirement visa news - and it's not good

I believe it has been suggested that . . . All kinds of things are being suggested. My own speculation is if anything will be accepted in lieu of the 800,000 baht, it will be a letter from a Thai bank plus a Thai bank passbook showing a deposit of at least 65,000 baht per month - at least for start...

Re: Retirement visa news - and it's not good

If Pattaya Immigration were to accept 1099's(SSA-1099, 1099R) that would be great, a standardized form that all Americans should receive for preparing their IRS 1040 's.

Re: US Embassy Bangkok to stop issuing proof-of-income letters

There is no way I would use an address that isn't my own. My friends and niece store things for me, they receive minor financial compensation, they open mail, scan and send to me. Nothing illegal, it is my tax and legal domicile. I recently received my new Medicare card at my legal domicile which I...

I use my friend's address. I could also use my niece's address as a backup. I could still have my SSA check deposited here if I so choose but I always have maintained an official U. S. address although I haven't lived there for 8 years.

Re: US Embassy Bangkok to stop issuing proof-of-income letters

I recommend going on the web to SSA.Gov and creating your online account. For security, once you enter your name, birthday, ssn, etc. they ask you questions from your credit history file that only you know the answers. You can view your 2019 SSA benefits (2.8% increase) and view and print a verifica...

Re: Retirement visa news - and it's not good

Hopefully, we will have the 65k monthly option available to us not because of fear of losing money in a financial crisis in a Thai bank but because of repatriating money and/or assets in an emergency is a major challenge. I can speak personally of repatriating money here and the hurdles are unbeliev...
