Re: Mosquitoes in Thailand

I don't like cosmetics, that includes mosquito repellent. When I can plan ahead (German language movies at Goethe institute in the garden, every year around Dec to Feb) I wear long trousers and long shirts. But usually I wear short trousers and T-Shirt, and get bitten occasionally (no problem with i...

Re: It's the ONLY way to fly

When I left from the UK to Thailand in Nov or Dec 2010, I got snow in my shoes / onto my socks. Rather than spending all the trip with wet socks, I took them off on the plane and put them on the air vent next to my seat (I had a widow seat). But I would never get the idea to hold them up to dry them...

Re: I am sooooooooo stupid!!

I wouldn't worry too much about that one time price hike for the birthday. If everything else is fine in the bar, I would go back.

Re: smog in pattaya

It's not just cars. Look at all the food preparation, with boiling oil, or fat dripping onto burning charcoal, and all the belching/farting/sweating people that pollute the air.

Re: I am sooooooooo stupid!!

I have a simple policy: in dimly lit places (that applies to all bars), I pay the exact amount (I don't tip); in well lit places like 7-Eleven or restaurants I use 1000 THB notes to get small change. In gogo bars I want to get out after paying as quickly as possible as I have seen anything and move ...

Re: Thailand's push toward "Cashless Society"

Wild dreams . . . in Thailand I do all hotels walk-in). Don't you make use of Agoda? I have found their rates so much cheaper than walk-in. In Thailand, I stay in places in the range of 300-500 THB that are often not even found on Agoda. However abroad (most notably Taiwan last year), it is indeed ...

Re: Marina Inn walk-in price

Finally made it there (Marina Inn). On 9 jan 2018, they had standard rooms at 500 THB per night. I stayed at Baan Dok Mai for years, but now in high season their rooms cost 700. I will probably stay at Marina Inn next time. Got their landline phone number as well: 038-416712 (the one on google maps ...

Re: Thailand's push toward "Cashless Society"

Wild dreams, just as the high-speed rail links between (places of your choice). I'm paying cash wherever possible, and will resist digital payment wherever possible; the only exceptions are MRT card (that one is really useful as I ride the MRT at least twice per week on average), and paying for flig...
