Re: N Korea

I just don't understand why their people allow this to continue. I don't believe they are all brainwashed at all. The grinding poverty which is part of daily life for most of them should be enough to make them aware of their situation. There we have to agree to disagree. There have been enough repo...

Re: N Korea

I would also like to see North and South Korean families able to be together again, North Koreans allowed to travel freely, people who escaped North Korea allowed to go home, if they choose, without fear of punishment, the starving people in North Korea having genuine access to food and decent livi...

Re: Bangkok Airways - passenger safety improvements

Your suggestion may well be true to a large extent, although all airlines have to comply with mandatory government and international regulations regarding maintenance and airworthiness. Mind you, with some countries, even these are sometimes bypassed - as was the case with Adam Air in Indonesia. Lau...

Re: R3 Sauna Bangkok Raided by Police

It could have just been something simple like not having the correct business license. That is what the Bangkok Post reported. Allegedly (for one never really knows the real motives) Huai Khwang police chief Kampol Rattanaprateep said - the owner of the sauna was charged with operating entertainmen...

Re: R3 Sauna Bangkok Raided by Police

look at it from the owner's point of view. The quickest way to lose the clientele you are chasing - young, fit guys - is to allow lots of old guys to enter. The young guys will just move somewhere else. If that happens, then the old farang will stop coming and your business goes down the toilet. Di...

Re: Bangkok Airways - passenger safety improvements

As one who has flown millions of miles, equally important in my view is a total update of the archaic black boxes. The fact that the lifespan of the underwater positioning beacons is just 30 days has been shown to be ridiculous following the crash of the Air France flight over the Atlantic and the d...

Re: Bangkok report April 2018

Just for info, the Bangna/Chonburi Expressway route from BKK is around 6 kms longer to Silom than the more usual Sirat Expressway (Route 7). It should be approx 39 kms compared to around 33 kms. Cannot recall what the tolls are on the former route, though. I have encountered several taxi drivers who...

Re: Bangkok Airways - passenger safety improvements

There is one thing I still can't grasp in this saga. I know from a friend who has worked with Cathay Pacific all his life and is now very senior that the engines on all their aircraft relay real-time information back to their maintenance base so that engineers can assist the captain with fast inform...

Re: Bangkok report April 2018

So it's the taxi from now on. But I'm wondering if taxi fares have recently gone up because it cost me 450 baht, rather than the usual 300 and something. He used the meter. Please remember that many who live in Bangkok are still on holiday. The traffic has been very light on the expressways and in ...

Re: Hong Kong Celebrity Chef relocated to Pattaya

Apologies! I have just looked for a map. It appears the location of his home is near the lake but the restaurant itself is close to the Royal Cliff on Kasetsin Soi 2. The SCMP article does not mention this. It also gets the name wrong. It should be "Comfort by Harlan". Here's the website w...
