Re: Trust Tripadvisor? You Won't After Reading This

I believe TripAdvisor would be well advised to adopt the policy now universal on Skytrax. The airline review site will only include reviews if you send a copy of the boarding pass as proof of having taken the flight being reviewed. Scanning and attaching the final page of a hotel bill would ensure t...

I entirely agree with you. But for most of the above, a signature is required at some stage before we actually get them, including passbooks!

Re: Be Careful at the bank

Same at Krungsri Bank. A new passport needs to be shown and registered almost as soon as it is received. Same with new phone numbers. I have never been informed my signature does not match here, but I have with HSBC in Hong Kong. Many banks suggest you re-register signatures every 10 years or so sin...

Re: Consequences of Trump's Win - 4

Another Republican pastor/legislator bites the dust - literally. He kills himself after allegations of sexual abuse. Dan Johnson, a Republican state lawmaker in Kentucky who refused to resign after allegations that he sexually assaulted a teenage girl in the basement of his home, apparently killed ...

Re: "Tulip Fever" - A Bust!

Totally agree about "Victoria and Abdul". Excellent movie which I just watched. I'm sure Judi Dench will be nominated for an Oscar. Interesting that she sings in the scene in Italy with Puccini. Not many know that in addition to being a superb classical actor, she was a song and dance girl...

"Tulip Fever" - A Bust!

Picked this movie up on Silom the other day and watched it last night. With the world going bananas over the spectacular rise in the value of Bitcoins, I thought I might learn a bit more about the world's first big speculative bubble (and first futures market, as I understand) when the price of just...

Re: Trust Tripadvisor? You Won't After Reading This

If I was looking for a Hotel in a place I did not know , I would first go to Booking.com for reviews since it is impossible to game their system. You have to pay and check out before being allowed to post a review. Good point, and I believe the same is true on sites like agoda and hotels.com. They ...

Re: Trust Tripadvisor? You Won't After Reading This

I agree with all the useful tips given above. But I still treat many reviews with more than a degree of suspicion. I wrote before on another site of a stay at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore in 2011 which for me was pretty ghastly. So many issues were wrong I would never dream of staying aga...

Re: Debut edition of Michelin Guide Bangkok - restaurants awarded

I'll await GB's personal recommendation before hoping to be entertained at this one. At between Bt. 10,000 and 13,000 all in for the set dinner with wines, I reckon christianpfc could dine out on that fortune for about 6 months!

Re: Trust Tripadvisor? You Won't After Reading This

I agree with you. I have found some very good hotels and restaurants as a result of checking with Tripadvisor and will continue to write and check reviews. The restaurant in the article is named The Shed at Dulwich. It was a deliberate prank to try and outwit Tripadvisor's system of checks and balan...
