Re: US Embassy Bangkok to stop issuing proof-of-income letters

I will post the information I receive as soon as I hear something. Don't hold your breath. You're probably better off calling Social Security in the USA. If they have a toll free number, there are several apps you can use to call from Thailand for free. And that's good because chances are you'll be...

Re: Another View on the Value of Retired Expats to Thailand

the figures for Azerbaijan visitors to the UK might be somewhat inflated by the lady who spent £16 million in Harrods. What in the world did she buy, the whole store? I would love it if when she went back home she told customs nothing to declare - and got away with it. She probably could have too. ...

Re: Pattaya New Terminal 21 Walkthru

Today I went with a Thai friend to Terminal 21. For both of us it was our first visit. I was both impressed and unimpressed. It's a tremendous place, very attractive and well laid out, but to my eyes if I want to make a choice between Terminal 21 and Central Festival, I might as well flip a coin. We...

Double holiday - Thursday, November 22

This year, for Americans Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 22. And for Thailand, the Loy Kratong holiday is also Thursday, November 22. You can enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at several restaurants and afterwards head for wherever they're going to be floating the krathongs where you happen...

Re: Retirement visa news - and it's not good

We'll probably never know. Unfortunately there is bound to be a number of farang who are going to find out the hard way. I hope they will go back to letting us prove the 65,000 baht per month minimum or even raise the minimum if need be, but as far as I know it would take the head of Thailand's imm...

Re: Retirement visa news - and it's not good

Do you use the income affidavit? If so, keep us posted. Since you included me in your quote, my answer is I've always used the income affidavit, but my retirement visa expires months from now, so if nothing changes I'll have to, albeit reluctantly, use the 800,000 baht. I don't like having to tie u...

Re: Retirement visa news - and it's not good

I feel very sorry for those who are now stuck in limbo. And I also feel sorry for people who don't read the boards, have seen no mention of this in the English language news media, word of mouth hasn't reached them, are completely unaware this is coming, and will have the shock of their lives when ...

Re: Retirement visa news - and it's not good

BTW what happens to those poor bastards that now want to put 800,000bht in a Thai acct. but they have less than 3mos. to renew their 1yr visa? I can think of only three things to do: One is to go to immigration, talk to the chief, explain the situation, and see what he says. The second is to go ahe...
