Siambury's farang grocery store and Siam Expat Foods

an Expat grocery place further up Soi Kao Talo, called Siamburi (Facebook https://www.facebook.com/siamburis/ or Siamburys on their Flyer, that a UK friend recommended to me. Glad to hear Vietnamese place has parking close by as that often is a problem. Now, if I could find a Vietnamese restaurant i...

Re: ACH transfers from USA to Bangkok Bank -Alert!

Here is a page from Finder.com that covers transferring funds to Thailand from the US and lists several companies including Transferwise showing the conversion rate and fees for each. Some may require you reside in USA (WordlFirst), which might be a restriction of some of the others. Some also may r...

Re: ACH transfers from USA to Bangkok Bank -Alert!

Christian PFC recommended Transferwise for moving money to Thailand. I've not used it for sending cash to Thailand, but do send money to a certain ASEAN financial centre. The money is in my overseas account within 30 minutes and my total loss on fees & forex spread is just a fraction under 0.5%...

Re: ACH transfers from USA to Bangkok Bank -Alert!

So, it looks like if you don't have a USA bank account you are screwed. Solution is simple, open a USA bank account (or pay ridiculous bank fees for the debit card). When selecting a new bank be sure to get one that doesn't charge to do ACH transfers (usually the big banks). The problem appears to ...

Re: ACH transfers from USA to Bangkok Bank -Alert!

Well, Bangkok Bank has again changed their information page on transfers & Direct Deposits (Social Security, Gov't pensions, etc.). I have been following the thread on Thaivisa.com where I first read about the change in transfers from USA bank to Bangkok Bank using Bangkok Bank's NY Branch. The ...

Re: Lonely without a boyfriend

I feel very fortunate to having met my bf almost 26 years ago, the first 10 years was a long distance relationship with my visiting twice a year for a couple of weeks each time. I retired in 2002 and came here to live, but a bit unsure at the time how it would go living together full time. Yes, ther...

ACH transfers from USA to Bangkok Bank -Alert!

This past week, I read a post on Thaivisa.com regarding changes in how you use your US bank online services to send transfers to your Bangkok Bank Account by routing it through the New York Branch, which is part of the US Automated Clearing House (ACH) system. Since Thiavisa can have both informatio...

Re: Pattaya tests new type of home mosquito trap

I know others that had it and did not go to see the doctor. Except for the elderly and children, in most cases it is not life threatening If they did not go to see a doctor, how can they be so sure it was Dengue Fever? As for the danger to the elderly, guess what - many of us are now officially &qu...

Re: Pattaya tests new type of home mosquito trap

I don't know how serious the problem actually is. I've never had Dengue Fever and I know only one person, a farang, who got the disease. That was several years ago. He is fine now. If you didn't mean me GB, then you should know you can add one more to those you know that has had it. It has been a f...
